Polished Cup! Zymol/Autoglym/Meguiars

Just a quick question folks.

Just now I currently use Zymol shampoo and Autoglym Super Resin and Extra Gloss. But I have recently been reading some stuff on Meguiars 3 Stage or something...can anybody give me more information on it. I personally think my car looks cracking with Autoglym, but I am now interested in what this 3 stage is all about.

Or do I try the Zymol Polish?

I dont see why you would want to change from the products you currently use if you are happy with the finish?

I wash mine weekly with Zymol shampoo, and when/if I ever wax it I use Zymol wax. To be honest after waxing it left the car very steaky and patchy. This was soon put right by following the final stage they suggest you do, which is to spray a fine mist of water over the car. I then buffed this off with a microfibre cloth. The finish was perfect.

Im pretty sure Brun and Claire will have some advice on waxing, or faceman if hes around.

Im happy with the way mine looks and its doesnt take too long so Ill be sticking with the Zymol wax and polish.

Cheers Lee.

Its just that I have heard everyone ranting on about other products. I have to admit that I am an Autoglym fan, but if there is something that is better, then I would like to hear about it! I know its all about personal pref. but I would like some opinions.

I used Turtle Wax Extreme/Autoglym Super Resin Polish (Still do..) and it was great - I then got some 3 Stage Meguiars and the difference was quite something - it was worth the extra work.. and extra cost..

I still use the Turtle Wax and Autoglym cus the finish is great - its a lot easier too.. but when I really want a good shine, Ill use Meguiars.

1 - Paint Cleaner (Gets rid of Oxidation etc..)

2 - Polish (Gets the wet look)

3 - Carnauba Wax (Seal it all in and protect)

untill I tried the proper Zymol polish (not the stuff in a bottle from Halfords),

>>>what does this mean?

What? £100! Hey, I knew it was a cut above the rest, but 10 times the price? Not grumbling if it worth it tho.

Where do you get it - Halfords? Or mail order. Best price please.....I am a Scotsman mind! Thats why I bought a Cup and not a normal 172! ;)

Hehe, Im still waiting for BRUN to drive down here so we can compare Zymol to Meguiars - cus in pics.. well, its unconclusive.. hehe.

From CraigM> - untill I tried the proper Zymol polish (not the stuff in a bottle from Halfords), nothing else Ive tried comes close.

Make your mind up!!!;)

Doh, yeah, I mean WAX - I was really just testing to see if you were reading this properly, so erm well done, ypu passed!!

Cheers mate!

I will wait to see if I get more feedback to see if I want to spend £100 on polish. I need to be convinced that it is better than what I am using. The money isnt a problem, but I think it has to be justified.

Never one to pass up the opportunity to put up some pictures. Ive just washed the car with the Zymol shampoo, and it was last waxed for Donny South. Still looks good as far as Im concerned.

Thats just the cheap Zymol stuff in a bottle. Does the trick for me. The water just beads on runs off still.

The zymol in the bottle is pretty good stuff. its actually made under license by turtle wax. It is a b**ch for streaking tho. As lee M says, you must mist it with water and buff off.

In fact misting and buffing and carnauba wax is a good idea.

before you buy anything, check out www.seriousperformance.co.uk and look closely at P21S Paint Cleaner and P21S Wax or if you live near a harley dealer check out S100 Paint Cleaner and S100 Wax. P21S and S100 are the same products (one is marketed for cars - p21s - and the other for bikes).

It is worth reading up about Zymol waxes... Ive never tried them myself (other than the turtlewax version) but apparently it is not really worth the high price - as you will read over at autopia. One guy bought the £1500 wax for his Ferarri and ended up sending a lump to another guy to try. Zymol isnt BAD par se, just very over-priced for what seems to be an average-ish wax. I guess its all about perceived value - it cost a lot so it must be good.

its not perceived value...........its the easiest wax to use you could ever use and the finish it gives is VERY good

i use the Zymol Carbon Wax on mine.........needs doing again actually to be honest havent done it in a while....

it might be expensive but a tub of there wax will last about 5 years or more

Eeee laddo, i use good old fashioned spit and elbow grease. Keeps bloody coal dust off mi car when im racin wippets. Dunt cost ought either.

Ive got the Zymol stuff from Halfords and was quite impressed, smelt lush too.
just went out to the garage for a quick smell of zymol......god it smells so good!

Anyone tried Diamondbrite?

I think thats what its called. You get a autherised dealer to cover your car in it and it stays on for ages. Im sure I read about it on scoobynet a few years back.

what about mer? or is that old hat? im not really into polishing but find it quite good and can be applied wet or dry.

i was told by some guy from a body shop that its good cause it doesnt wear away your laquer like apparently auto glym does...

Just tried the Zymol wax. What a tool! It reccomends that you spray with water (lightly), and buff again to maintain the wet look. Never had time to do that, but waxed on its own beats, Autoglym hands down - which I have been using for years!

I think Ill give mine a quick waxing before Donnington, its certainly going to need it. After Southend last week, and Power Engineering this weekend its covered a lot of miles without a wash. :(

I did mine like that mac, with the mist of water, I was very impressed with the end results too.

Mer is a polish, not a wax. A polish removes dead paint and lacquer from the car, so doing this a lot will eventually impact the finish.
