Odd headlight issue

Its on a cup.. so its a std light.
The left light has gone, so i have purchased a replacement.. But this doesn't work. The sidelight still works (and that looks to come out the same block) And all the other lights are the car are fine.

The light works in the other light

Later I will test with a meter (at work at the mo) But are not seperate fuses etc are there? or is this a car of s**te wiring, an and i now have to mess about chasing it around the car?

does it have xenons??
if so its the ballast under the headlight thats gone

Iirc they are seperate fuses. They always were on my last couple of pugs too
