New Cup Owner

  Cup and R6
Hi All,

Just bought myself a 52 Plate 172 Cup yesterday thats got Cliosport stickers on the rear windows, thought id sign up and see if the old owner is still around and dig up some more history on it!

I've always owned VAGs in the past, first time Ive ever owned a french car and I can see what they say about french electrics lol, few things wrong with the clio at the min:

1. Temperature Indicator keeps reading 49 degrees, I dont think its that hot outside! does anybody know if the ambient temp sensor is on the front bumper like in Vags?

2. Radio doesnt like picking up any radio stations which is rather annoying, sometimes it will but most of the time i just get static, any ideas?

3. Drivers side door central locking has gone, Im thinking its the actuator so trying to find one at the min, any ideas on price for this?

4. Cambelt, the biggie, cant really find any decent prices at the minute, so far research has led me to believe anywhere between 300 and 800 :S

This car has now got to last me as long as possible due to my last few years of constantly changing cars! so i have no probs spending the ££ to get her mint again! have some pics but they are bad resolution from having to mail them off my phone, anybody recognise it as their old one?

Cheers and hello again

1. Temperature sensor is under the wing mirror.

2. Ariel connection?

3. No idea.

4. Cambelt, there are some good specialists. Rentech, Mark Fish, GDI and Birchdown to name a few. All highly recommended on here.

Nice car, good choice and welcome!

Thanks for the quick reply :)

seems like a friendlier place than the VAG forums here too :approve:

dont suppose you know the part number for the temp sensor?

thanks for mentioning Birchdown, I was racking my brain thinking of who my mate said could do it near me and youve just reminded me! awesome :D

ill have a play with a new actuator, i cant see them being too expensive tbh, im thinking its the aerial in the radio too so will take it out and have a nosey.

I noticed the cars also had a KnN cone filter put on it with a cold air pipe coming from the bottom of the bumper, now with it being a small car and large engine, ive a feeling its going to be sucking more warm air in the cool air, am i better going back to the standard air box?

Cheers

The standard airbox for a 172 Cup is a good set up. If it was me I'd go for this or an ITG Maxogen, which is actually very similar to the standard 172 Cup design.

As for the part number for the temp sensor, there are a few people on here who have access to the Renault parts listings. I'd suggest Fred (forum user name) if you need to resort to PM, always a very helpful chap and very knowledgeable!
