My RR day out....with a few pics...

Had a class day out today down at TSR the VW specialists. It was an organised Skoda RR day but it was open to others to so i went along with my mate in his octy VRS and me in the clio.

Was £12 for two runs so a bit of a bargain but didnt get a print out at this price sadly..

TSR currently own the second fastest fwd car in europe. This thing is truly mad! I had to sit on it when it was in the rollers because it moves so much, even strapped down!!

2.6 Twin Turbo RS4 engine in a passet running 450bhp +

1.6 vtech clubman! Gotta love it!!

And finaly my car looking dirty and lonely

And the only proof i have of what power she made!

Well impressed with my car! 152bhp @ the wheels. Produced more power than the vtech mini, a 200sx (1.8T), cordoba 2.0l 16v, golf vr6 and a couple of other cars!

Thats pretty good m8! How the hell have you got that with those mods? thats over 190bhp atf

Also has he recently changed the engine on the passat? At the VW day in Performance VW it had a 2.7lt S4 engine in and only managed 11.95 0-100. I guess it would be awesome top end tho

The guy said it will be around 180bhp. I didnt really trust the reading but all the other cars were getting spot on figures so i guess its right?! The op was loving it! lol

Source, David from puma race engines (http://www.pumaracing.co.uk/power3.htm):

To reflect the fact that % losses are high for low powered cars and vice versa I use the following equations which have been found to correlate well with real world transmission losses. FWD cars - add 10 bhp to the wheel figure and divide the result by 0.9

To estimate the expected wheel bhp from a known flywheel bhp just reverse the equations FWD - multiply flywheel power by 0.9 and then deduct a further 10 bhp

So (152+10)/0.9= 163

Really irrelevant as its how it goes that matters. Bullsh*ting figures to make customers happy is still common imo (nice TSR use atw) .

Still very impressive and hope you enjoy it Tom :)

Don't think that ^ equation really adds up..tbh I thought 20% was more the par on fwd..

Modern gearboxes are approx 95% efficent (see Evo mag this month), as said people have been brought up around over inflated transmission losses.

id say more than 10bhp is lost through transmission with 150@wheels!

mine made 180odd@wheels = 216@fly

216@fly with my weight in letstorquebhp = 13.4@105mph.

car ran 13.4@104mph at pod :)

but....either way, its ATW that counts!!

That sum comes out as 180 m8...not 163!? I remember when one of the GDI cars got 157 (iirc) everyone was saying it was 202bhp at the fly?! which is over 28% trans loss. most places vary a fair bit tho. Mine made 151bhp atw and came out as 192bhp and on the same rollers a teg managed 196 which would be about right with the mods he had. Only real test is on the strip really but I`m sure it will be a flyer anyways

Cool site...to get my 1/4 mile time it reckons I have about 184 bhp...although I have managed a 5.7 0-60 time at York

Chris

Power at Flywheel (BHP) : 184
Weight without Driver (KG) : 990
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) : 188.84
0 - 60 (Secs) : 5.96
0 - 100 (Secs) : 15.17
60 - 100 (Secs) : 9.21
Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.38Terminal Speed (MPH) : 97.35
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) : 14.18
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) : 99.10

the RR losses depend on corretion factors as well. Chris who runs the rollers works out the correction on the day....

base RR figure to add to ATW figure on the rollers we use is 28%

so 140atw is about 180 bhp...

this may not work for other rollers depending how they are calibrated and how their software is set up.

its all only a guide though.... before and after is more relavant.

Not just transmission loss to take into account though, lost through compression of tyres and machine slack must be accounted also.

Well the best way that i could see to tell just how well my car was running is comparing it to the 2.0l 16v cordoba that was there. They are 150bhp standard. This one had an exhaust and filter and made 122atw. Think that shows how good mine is! :)

Really think mine might have mods i dont know about though. Maybe cams?
