Mk2 Clio V6 Exhaust holed. Help Needed!

  Clio v6 & Atom 300

This weekend the zorst on my Mk2 V6 has sprung a hole. Inside the car the roar is ridiculous! I like noisy zorsts but trust me it is SILLY! Took the undertray off and looks like it has been patched and the patch is coming off! Not happy i can tell you. The car is not 2 years old.

Otherwise is there always a "patch" or similar on the big silencer cylinder? Location is front, top, passenger side near the end.

Anyone had issues with the standard exhaust on a V6 this new? Seems a little suspect to me!

Where can I get one and for how much?

Im guessing the warranty will not touch it (a) cos its the zort, and (b) cos it "looks like it has been repaired".

Any advice?

Cheers

Peter:(

..dont know about the patch sounds dodgy, id go stainless if you can afford it, frees up a good gain on the vee to, sure some vee owners will be along to tell you where to purchase soon

Its already a stainless system on a V6 255 so there can be no "rusted" argument. However, reckon theyll claim its wear and tear :-(

Very hard to weld a patch on s.s. probably why it failed if it is patched. Have you had the V6 from new?

..ya i meant stainless/aftermarket, the renault system isnt the best quality so good gains can be had

To answer a few questions:

Ive bought the car only a few months ago, it has had one previous owner from new. Its done a fairly high mileage but id not expect that to have much effect as its the stop start low mileage driving that normally kills exhausts (due to water in the zorst, that never get hot enough to evaporate it).

Anyone know where go I could a good price on (a) the Renault branded replacement , or (b) a better quality, nicer sounding / performance replacement.

Cheers

Peter

Scott at renaultsportV6.com 01249 720040. Tell him he can flog you the OEM silencer he removed from my car: 04 V6 255. I only done 3000 miles on that from new. Or he might have some of the lightweight TWR s.s.silencers left which sound a bit fruityer and save lots of weight and I noticed improved performance and mpg after fitting it.

Ok, ill wait a bit then call. Cheers! ;)

Anyone else got any comments?

Has anyone else on here had a zorst fail yet on a mk2? Seems poor quality from Renault for a s/steel zorst to fail in less than 2 years.:(

Fcuk me!!!!!!!

Just rung the Renault main dealers for a price check.

£1,017.56 for the silencer + VAT and £150 + VAT to fit!:(

Not a chance!

I hear that the K-tec system is good, but seriously, try Scott mate. Just spoke to him an hour ago so hes definately about and will sort you out MUCH cheaper than Renault!

Sounds dodgy that your zorst failed in the first place - arent stainless ones supposed to last a lifetime?

Got a K-tec one on mine ... No complaints spot on fit and quality.. Good noticeable gain noticed and not to loud

Cheers hog1, TRW1, 137699 (nice name! ;)), and others! :D

Spoke to Scott and I might be getting hog1s old zorst.

Value at last!

Still going to talk to Renault tho. Worth a punt for a freebie!

Cheers

Peter:D

Who said Renault Parts were cheap? Lets see JT justify the price of a zorst and as for £150 + vat to fit, that makes the labour rates dearer than Lambos and SchumiFiat (sorry Ferrari). I can see there is going to be a big market for replica Renault Parts, especially stuff like exhausts, brakes, lights, shockers, that Renault dont even make.

It amazes me that you can buy a s/steel "sports" back box with the all important lifetime guarantee (take a hint Renault:mad:) for £450, or pay over twice as much for an inferior item from Renault. Plus they charge £60 per hour (+ VAT) labour to fit it. Bleedin daylight robbery!

Ditto hog1s comment about Renault cheapness.

It strikes me that any part shared with the humble "standard" clio is reasonably priced. Anything specific to the V6 has a 400% markup.

Im sure someone in Renault was thinking - ahhhh the people who could only afford £7995 for a brand new car - they want cheap parts. However those that can afford £27000 for a V6 can clearly afford to pay more for their parts, so rip them off!

To be fair - Ford are the same with their parts. Anything for a Cosworth is grossely more expensive than for the standard Escort - as I found out when my missus dented my front wing.... £56 for a "standard" escort wing, or £490 for a "Cosworth" version....

Daylight robbery.

I hear its the same with the Focus RS, so Renault are not doing anything other manufactueres arent... bless them!

Mind you - Id still make a fuss to Renault Customer services - a stainless exhaust should last years - if yours has failed Id give them hell about it. Theyll probably tell you to get lost at first but if you give them grief, and ask to speak to management etc., you just *might* get some joy.

Just had some good news from the Renault garage! :)

The V6 zorst is covered by the warranty for 3 years so will be replaced for free! Hurrah! Well Done Renault! :D

im not justifing the prices they charge but things like the V6, Focus RS are sold in limited numbers so therefore they dont sell as many parts for them as say a 1.2 clio so to cover the cost of manufacture they have to bump up the price but £1,017.56 for the silencer + VAT and £150 + VAT to fit! is stupid but their must be people out there that will pay it

Not Happy!!!!

Unbelievable!!!!!!!

Was hoping to pick my car up today after waiting 2 weeks for Renault to make a new exhaust and ship it in from France. However today they have informed me they have taken my old one off and found I was correct after all and it had been patched! And because it had been patched they can't change it under the warranty.

I specifically told them to check for the patch to begin with. AAAAAAAArgh.

2 weeks wasted driving a sh1t box hire car.

No further forward at all!

I'm SOOOO p1ssed off!

Sorted!

Back to plan A.

Booked with Scott at renaultsportV6.com to swap for a nearly new zorst on Monday

Lesson for all - Renault main dealers haven't got a clue!
