Loss of Power

Hope somebody can help. I have a clio 172 53 plate. I started it up this morning after it being sat in the rain, and I noticed I had a light on the dashboard undeath the petrol gauge. As I was late for work I didnt give it too much thought and thought I would sort it when I got home. I drove it for about 5 mins and it was seriously down on power and only letting me rev too 2000rpm with and max speed of 55mph in 5th. I headed home checked the engine levels and everything was ok then turned the car back on and the light had gone out then drove it 20 miles to work with no problems. Whilst driving home 8 hrs later it was fine then 4 miles into the journey on the M3 the light came on again. I turned off the engine then turned it back on again and the light was off again and driving normally. Has anybody else experienced a similar problem or know what it might be? Renault have no clue and told me to book it in. (very helpful) Thanks

Sounds like its going into limp mode. When you take it to renault they will chuck it onto the computer and that will read the fault, then you will know :)

I had this problem quite regularly a long time ago. I got the TDC sensor replaced as I was having cold start problems and it hasn't come back since (touch wood).

I had that problem yesterday. My car would only rev to 3000 so i called out the AA who found out it was the throttle position sensor. He went into his diagnostic computer and fixed the fault from there. No expensive renault fix there for me!!!

Any specialist will be able to diagnose your car, it does sound like a sensory problem.

I wouldnt take it to Renault (£56) an hour labour charge and thats just to tell you whats wrong with it.....!

Have you ever given the throttle body a clean? If not try that before changing any parts, this happened with my 1.2, gave the TB a good clean out and it never came back.

heres my post

Has anyone had this problem I have a MK3 clio 1.4 Dynamique 53 reg, I have just started getting this problem as of yesterday. The issue is when pulling away from junctions an after travelling between 60-70mph for atleast 3 miles the car will lose power. Then it will not accelerate just bogs.

The first 3 times this happened there was no engine management (MIL) light on. After this the light has come on so I ran an OBDII diagnostic showing that the Throttle position sensor circuit A malfunction.

Is this a known problem, I have just bought the car 2-4 months ago?

Normally a TDC issue or sometime a throttle body problem.

Try cleaning the throttle butterfly and your intake. Although you'll need a trip to a dealer/specialist to reset the light/error record.

Took it too Renault in the end and they put it in the diagnostic machine and it came back with 3 stored faults dat were not current. They cleared the faults for £42 and the car has been running perfectly for the last 1 and 1/2 week.
