If there has indeed been a mistake made by Fred, everyone's human. As he stated, this particular company has screwed up seven times, and that's only the times that Fred himself has rectified.

For what it's worth, I've been to two different Renault "specialists," BTM and JMS. And I'd recommend both to everyone else, I'll only ever use these two in future.

Eight. At least.

I had the belts changed on my 172 changed there.......... Needless to say if i'd have kept it Fred would have been fixing/looking after it in future.

Rentech aren't the only good place down south. Add Mark Fish to the list of honest, genuine, specialists.

As for Fred, a great contributor to this site for many years and a huge help to many, many fellow enthusiasts. I've not heard a bad word said against him that holds water.

In my opinion though, poor work should be named and shamed - this is an owners club (not just a forum) after all.

Got my car back from Fred on Thursday night at 10pm for a trackday on Friday. Great service and the car is running spot on and didn't miss a beat this afternoon! He stayed late getting it sorted on Wednesday and Thursday night knowing I needed it so in my eyes that's unbeatable customer service!

In regards to the company that did the previous work I'll be contacting them next week to discuss the poor workmanship. Many ppl on this forum know of the company however this isnt a thread that's been created to **** off other companies. When I hear back from the company I'll be happy to share the answers they give and hopefully this will change them for the future......

To be honest I've got no idea what I'm looking at.
But does make me think twice before just heading to any old 'specialist'

ask for qualifications, recomendations etc, i happily (f**k what health and saftey say) let any customer stand and watch me work all day, i explain everything as i work and SHOW them their timing is more perfect than megan fox naked sitting on my face

i have nothing to hide and enjoy "showing off" my skills, end of the day the customer is paying a large chunk of money, the service provided has to be 100% transparent and perfect!

oh and just to re-establish my fanboyness of BTM.

fred rebuilt a 104k clio engine in 2 hours on our 172, it now runs quicker than most (theres 50plus people to back this up) and then rebuilds my entire megane engine, bare block up in 23 hours (it then did a 1200 mile run in and didnt drop ANYTHING)

both times checking other parts and fitting extras at no cost.

wigga please.

^i fitted a complete engine and box and had it running in under 2 hours on the 172, not rebuild it in 2 hours, i'm good, not rebuild an engine in 2 hours good ;)

Fred's a legend as is danny at 519

I have a few ideas who the culprit could be for the things going wrong in this thread

This is what I loved most when I had my cambelt done by Fred on Monday. Watched him put the whole thing together nearly with no effort, and he explained/ showed the timing setup.

Fantastic service Fred offers!

Fred has a camping chair!

What a thread this has been! Something to entertain me at 3am

All the work Fred has ever done, or I've ever seem him do has been spot on 100%

I rung U2 to see If they would write him a theme tune, but they told me they couldnt come up with anything cool that rhymed with potato :(

^is it quicker? (you forgot the bit about me towing you in ;))

Yep, feels a lot quicker and more responsive now. Staring at the nurburgring sticker on the Volvo for 16 miles makes me think I defiantly need to go, well worth the tow :)

I suspect mine probably looks the same.
It was changed by the previous owner last year for £350 and it's now got a f**ked dephaser.
I have to spend £££s to correct someone else's bodge job :(
Still at least I'll know it's been done and done properly!

To be fair, last time I was up at yours I had a seat - I sat in the back of Dynacup hiding those cats from that big piky who popped in looking for scrap lol
