Has remap killed my car?? :(

  Clio DCi 100
I was driving my dci home late the other nite when the engine management light & red stop light (the ones in the centre of the console) started flashing. The flashing stopped so i carried on cautiously (no loss of power that i could detect) but anyways they came on again about 1 min later and i decided to stop the car. I turned the engine off & then it wouldn't start again!! :(

Called out the AA guy who couldn't fix it, said nowt was comin up on his diagnostics so he towed it home for me but now i'm without a car :(

When i turn the ignition on (without cranking it over) all the lights come on in the usual fashion and go out again like everythings fine. But directly i try to turn the engine over those same engine management & stop lights flashing on again & it won't start.

AA guy hazarded a guess that mayb the sensors were saying the pressures where too high so car was cutting the fuel to protect the high pressure pump? if so how can i reset it and will it cost much?

I'm wondering if its to do with my engine remap. I had it done about 30k ago but i remember those same lights flashing up briefly if i was really caining it top end - thing is they went away when i backed off and ive never had a problem with starting again like this.

Any help would be much appeciated.

who remapped your car?

Rs Tuning - about a year ago. Like said, ive had no probs with with up til now, but wen i spoke to an electrical specialist he said he won't touch it if its been remapped cos they 'change all the perameters...'

I had a similar problem, it turned out to be a 5amp fuse.

Check all your fuses before doing anything costly!

I sell 15 - 20 a week - there extremely unreliable and break for fun. The 100 bhp runs a KP35 Borg Warner turbo which isnt to bad - its the delphi injectors that cant cope + the Bosch fuel pump has a habit of breaking up from the inside and blocking them. At £260 + vat each thats an expensive problem x 4

Youve been lucky to get that kind of mileage out of the engine with a re-map. It might of been trouble free for the past 30k but now its troublesome - expect big bills

When you remap the K9K engine your playing with knives.

I'd think that goes for most cars tbh, its been trouble free motoring for the last 30k tho

Have to disagree there.

I had an AngelTuning map put on my DCI80 and whilst it was fun for the week when it worked, it started flashing the glow plug light if I was full throttle between 3.5k and 4krpm in 3rd gear and up.

I would back off, the light would go out, and I could continue up the revs. Then the next day coming off a roundabout in 3rd the EM and STOP lights came on. I took it back there and then to have it put back to standard.

The car went really well for a 1.5d, but in the 100 miles it had done, I'd had more lights flashing at me than in the previous 20k trouble free, flat out miles.

Took the map off, and from there it did another 20k miles trouble free, pretty much flat out all the way.

Thanks for that info matey, it seems our problems could be similar then, except it seems your mappers may hav been a bit too overzealous with the power cos my lights only eva came on after 4.5k in 5th

Would the tuning company put mine back to standard free of charge?

Note to MATTBLACK, my pump is Delphi too not bosch as i once thought.

Thing is i don't think its DEAD....i think its just sumthing electronic thats come on 'telling' it not to fire up - but thats only a feeling

Yep, well of course they tried to tell me it was a problem with the components and that a remap will just highlight any hidden (for the time being) issues.

Thing is I could have replaced the parts they told me were dodgy, and it could have worked fine, but I'd never feel comfortable having it flat out for a few hours on the motorway (I'd still do it mind you;)). But in standard form it did that time and time again all over Europe, miss that car tbh.

I would imagine they'd put the standard map back on for free if they're a decent bunch, they should have it stored on their system which would make it 10 minutes work.

i do hope so :( got a guy coming round this eve who's meant to be the master of car electronics lol, i'l let u know how we get on :)

trouble with resetting the map is it was done like 300 miles away lol, getting to works a nightmare cos i hav another car but THIRSTY as anything and my company fuel card only works with the clio so i'm having to pay cash & i'm down to my last 50 :(

Homelessness here we come!!

Nah he probably means company card is diesel only and his thirsty car is petrol so he cant use the card !!Something i tried but got told sorry only Diesel on the company car...Tut Tut £60 later

lol no and the tanks nearly full :) wen we prime the 'bulb thing', air seems to generate itself getting more and more plentiful :S sounds like a leak to me

  Megane 225
when i got my remap done, the first time i cained it the dump valve fired off and smacked the under side of the bonnet! Its a 1.2 tce so nat a diesel. But it also blew a fuse, cant remember what one!

That post reeks of fail LOL

  Better than yours. C*nt.
LOL!

And to the OP - a Diesel engine isn't that complicated, if the pump is going and the injectors are firing you'll get it having half an attempt at going. If it's not even trying (no smoke!) then you want to look at injectors, pump, and any electronic whizzbangs that prevent that running.
