Guys please help.

  clio 16v
Ok this one is pickling my brain. Got in my valver today to go to work, pushed the clutch and there was a cracking noise
like something in the clutch pedal snapped. The pedal then went loose and is now sitting on the floor. I initially thought it was
the cable but on further inspection the cable has not snapped. At the top of the pedal is what looks like a ratchet mechanism, one black and a white
piece of plastic with teeth on. Im assuming these teeth fit together? On mine at the moment these two bits of plastic have come apart. Does anybody know what the
problem is?

come on people somebody must know
the bits im talking about look like this. Ive removed the cable but the two "ratchet mechanism" parts wont stay together...

Same thing happened on my Escort GTI, don't think it cost much to put right but i forget what the part was. If i remember it was like a half moon shape white plastic thing with teeth around the edge and on the GTI it had more or less broke in half, I'm sure someone will tell you what its called soon enough.

i changed one on mine, only costs a few quid but are a pain in the arse to change, called a clutch ratchet funnily enough!

thats the problem the teeth on the ratchet dont appear to be broken or anything. it seems like the cable has suddenly become to long but it hasnt snapped. when I route the cable through the ratchet it seems to long to hold the ratchet together. reckon the cable could have stretched?

The ratchet has probably worn, therefore you need to buy a new pedal/rachet assembly and you may as well replace the cable too at the same time. Then you will be sorted for a while.

No, don't buy anything other than the geniune Renault cable and pedal assembly, They will not be too expensive. You will also have piece of mind that they wiil work properly.
The substitutes are never a good idea.
