Got my 182

Picked it up on friday. Prett pleased with it. 54 plate with 42k miles, BG.

Got a couple of questions now..

The clutch seems to sort of rattle/seem loose in first/2nd. Does this just need tightened? It mite not be the clutch bit it does seem loose but there is def a rattle noise from down there in the low gears.

Looking for help to buy some cleaning products. Seen before on cs the snow foam things. Can anyone direct me where and how much these will cost? Then just some other cleaning ideas.

Silvervisions and a splitter. These are the first things i want to add. Again prices/where from.

Cheers

No idea on clutch..

Cleaning products, check i4detailing.co.uk and look in the detailing section, theres loads of threads about it all, a few on getting started etc. You'll need a pressure washer and the attatchment for snow foam, then some products.

Silvervisions, not sure on how much but they arent expensive. Halfrods/eBay

Splitter, depends which one you want. Theres a splitter thread in Media. Cup ones from Renault or Carbon from K-Tec. Both of those are £100ish I think.

Clutch rattle err i'd recomend trying other Clio 172/182's but bar replacments theres no adjustment as its all cable

I'd check the gearbox oil level as they do leak

Splitter ktec carbon firbe is a common popular choice but its not cheap and not my cup of tea each to there own

Silvervision shop round

No idea about cleaning though

  Lots of Alfas
Have a look at the clutch cable where it goes on the clutch arm through the gearbox. See if it has some metal weights on the end. As Renault improved the clutch cable by putting weights on it to prevent this kind of thing. MIght be worth ordering one if yours has the older type cable. Failing that check the pedal assembly/self adjuster.

Did it have the belts done??

Nah the belts havent been done yet.

Mot is due in March so i mite get them both done then. What would people reccommend?

Be aware that your aux belt is at least a year and 6k overdue! If it fails it tends to take the cam belt with it.

rite thanks for that il maybe look at getting it done asap.

Is it best to take it to a renault garage to get these done. What prices would you reckon id be paying for both + mot ?

Well the first thing to do is avoid Arnold Clark. None of the branches I asked even knew what an aux belt was, or told me it needed changed every 72k or 5 years (the previous owner has probably been advised this, hence it hasn't been done). Parks seemed more on the ball. Can't remember the price but £200-£300 is typical I think. I would stick with a main dealer or specialist for this, as apparently it is a tricky job.

I'm not sure on the odds of it failing, but I would be gutted if I put it off 3 months and then it broke! You're probably not going to save much money getting the MOT and belt at the same time, might as well get it done now.

rite thanks. i have sent my nearest renault dealer/service room an email to check rough prices. I saved almost a grand getting the 182 that hadnt had its belts changed so spending 2-300 pounds isnt too bad.

cheers for the help.

Could also ask them to check out the clutch/noise

  Clio 182 FF/Cup Packs
paddy it'll be around £200 for the Aux belt, but a cam belt on these cost around £500-£700 and are a specialist like rentech or ktec or good main dealer only job, as said above they're a little tricky.

welcome btw

both belts plus MOT will be circa £600 at a main stealer. shame you didnt get that negotiated into the price

:S

the cambelt isnt due til 5 years or 72k, so could wait til its 5th birthday whenever that is?

oh and aux belt + service is £300 from parks, so i imagine that the sighthill evans halshaw will be around the same.

I think il get the timing belt done pretty soon. Then then cambelt within the year.

Could do with a coupon coming in !

timming and cambelt are the same thing

the clio has two belts the aux belt which should be chnaged at 36k and the cambelt at 5years /72k (aux belt is changed at the same time) but IMO never leave it more than 4 years and 60k

still waiting on the local renault getting back to me. leaving it 2 months should hopefully be ok and that way i can get everything done at once.
