Gearstick went floppy

Hey,

So I had a short trip earlier and had stoped with the car running for about 10 seconds then when I pulled away I think I got into first but when I went to second it didnt go in (the engine just revved), so I pulled in and the gearstick wouldnt go into any gear and would just flop around. There was no wierd sounds or anything so maybe it is a linkage?:S

so i was wondering if anyone has any idea's on what this could be,the car is a 2000 1.2 with amost 170000 miles

Check the selector fork under the airbox.

Circlip may have popped out and the selector rod has come out or the fork as per the post above.

If it is, it's a very cheap fix

When mine did the sale it was the bolt hat connects the linkage to the pivot bar,
