garage fixed clutch cable but now i cant get it in gear!!

hello guys

i so so so need some help on this!!

my clutch cable snapped last week i took it to the garage and they fitted a new clutch cable!! problem is now i cant get it in gears unless i call upon the strength of 10 tigers!!

believe me the amount of force that i need to use to get it in gear is a joke, and thats if it goes in!!

and to reverse i have to switch the engine off and put it in gear and then start the car!! now please please can some one suggest a good garage to get a new clutch fitted and a cam belt(thought i would get a new clutch as the cam belt is an engine out job so make sense to do)

now i was thinking of taking it to K-Tec as their in bournemouth, as i really want people who know clios to do it for me, and i would take it to renault but will that cost me a fortune?

please help guys i cant tkae any more dodgy work, my poor car

Maybe take it back to the same garage and explain what the problem is and see if they can sort it, obviously with no extra charge to you. I'm sure someone on here will have an idea what's wrong and how much you should be looking at. :)

its the length of the cable... its a fraction too long... even with OE cables this sometimes happens..

we sometimes find that a small spacer between the cable and box is required... or try a new cable...

its just the clutch not fully disengauging (sp) thats causing the problem

i wish i could take it back, but its a bit more complicated then yet!!

after i said i was not happy with the fact that i could not change gear, and i asked him which end of the cable snapped(as my friend said i might need a new rotatorpivot on the pedel?)he got abusive and started swearing and tellin me to f off and he was proper in my face shouting at me then he got all racial and threw the cable at my car and was trying to fight me!!

so dont think i will be going back there

He hasn't fitted a genuine Renault cable! It's easy to replace the cable, about 1.5 hours work. But you must use the genuine Renault part. Find an independant specialist for Renault's, see Yellow Pages. But much better to do it yourself. Not difficult to do if you take your time.

back in the day the 5 GTT's were the worst for this problem

What garage did you take it to 6secs?? Just wondering, as we live quite close, just so I know not to take mine there in the future. By the way, thanks for holding the door open for me in the UCI Car Park in Sutton a few weeks back! ;)

had the exact same problem with my williams, fitted a new renault clutch cable and then found it hard to select gears. Eventually it sorted itself out, something to do with the ratchet on the pedal tightening one more notch. Not had a problem since!

haha I would have said hello but I couldn't work out where I recognised you from till I got home!! what was the name of the garage??

regency garage in stanley park

thought my car was fine this morning as it was cold and all the gears where working fine

but as the car warmed up they all started to get worse!!

whats going on

but i thought that the cable was to short as it was not disengaging the gears properly

and if it had contracted in the cold would it not be worse

im confused
