Fifth Gear overreving

I have a 1.4 2002 cilo, every time I change into fifth gear the car red lines and loses power. Rev's around 4300 on motorway doing 70 and shoots up everytime I go into fifth.
Any ideas on the problem? Thanks

Sounds like you've got 3rd not 5th...

Drive at 30mph. Put the car in third. Check RPM. Then put the car in 5th. Check RPM again.

Other than your throttle sticking or you not actually having anything to engage in 5th, I can't see any reason why you'd get silly RPM. Even if the clutch was shot you'd still notice some slipping in 4th.
