Exhaust Blowing - MOT

  Titanium 182
Had car in for service today and my milltek is blowing where the Cat joins the center section

How easy is this to fix? and can it fail an Mot?

Theres no gasket at that joint, and it's the worst one to try and get to seal properly IMO.

I'd get a new clamp for it, undo the joint and clean off any paste/gum/crap, clamp it up with new clamp and seal with a silicone based sealant

I can testify to a blowing Miltek at that exact point causing it to fail its MOT :O(.

Theres no gasket just that stupid clamp! I put a good seal of high temp silocone sealent on it and around the clamp and it did the job! Seems to be holding well so far.

Shame that I can't say the same about the welds on my back boxes!!! They are blowing but at least Miltek are sending me out a new rear section.

Awww not what I wanted to hear. Least my welds on the back boxes are still going strong after about 8000 miles

Had same problem on my MOT there was a major air leak at the joint where the zorst meets the cat pipe, causing the emissions and Lambda readings to be way out - it is a temporary fix getting the exhaust resealed with paste as after time it will need to be resealed again.i had a new clamp fitted around 5 weeks ago with nylux bolts and the joint where the zorst meets the cat was sealed with a good dollop of paste - everythings still fine but i am keeping my eye on things !!

best of luck with the retest

The part number is PGP55, its a factor timax part number - That info was supplied to me by the guys at Birchdown (Renault specialists in Cheshire) I am not sure of any online stockists though

Maybe they can order one in for you or advise of any retailers in your area ??

i used a winter hack last year to save the bike from salt and it passed the MOT with a blowing exhaust. the tester said it was only an advisory as the car passed the emission test.......and that was at ATS where they could've easily failed it (as i was expecting) to get more money out of me for a new exhaust
