ECU remap rip off?

I was in my local "car tuning" workshop today and i was jsut asking about the price of some team dynamics and if they would fit my clio. Then the guy goes, no but i could remap your ECU to "race" for £350 giving u between 8 and 12 extra bhp. I was like ok cheers cya. Rip off or not?

I belive that the K-tec remap can give you arround 16bhp at peak..... well thats what they said to me in an email... but that was with a decat i think...

Rubbish. You might gain 5 bhp at best. What you will gain is a good chunk of mid-range torque. I gained 15 lb/ft at 2.5k. Very useable.

The problem is the price to get from here (Guernsey, Channel Islands) would add an extre £200 at least so i guess i dont really have an option. He could of told me anything i was just seeing if he had tryed to rip me off!

You can buy the ECU from K-tec and they will send it over to you then you send yours back... swap like. thats what im planning on doing since they are 320 miles away from me.

Sorry bud, I didn't mean to come across as having a pop at you.

Realistically, I have had my 172 remapped, fitted a Janspped 200 cell sports cat', I have a custom 2.5'' exhaust, a phase 1 172 airbox with Pipercross panel and uprated feeds with silicone bend and I doubt I have hit 185bhp as yet.

Remaps are a worthwhile mod' but don't expect turbo like increases.

PM Pmurray on here as Paul runs RSTuning and can map' your ECU directly from what I remember if you are willing to send it to him.

The decat on the 182 is a nice, simple job, unlike the 172. Go for a 2.5'' full system if you can afford it, that should show some nice increases and most probably weigh less.

Aye, im getting it made for me from a specialist arround my way.... K-tec and Yozza want over £110 unfitted. but im getting my decat made for me and fitted for £50. Well chuffed with that.

Ive got a cup as well so even more weight loss is ace..

I wouldn t mind having a listen to your car once its decatted being thinking about it . dont want too loud . had a 57i kit on for two weeks too loud and right behind the rad .

Benllech , sold my K&N to turnbull for his 172 i found it a bit too loud (sign im getting older) , im gonna get a panel filter instead .

Im mates with Booker/Vinny etc haven t done a lot with kroozin but know your bro from seeing him at Bookers workshop . Ive seen your car in Caernarfon . Wish i hadn t bought Black/Gold it looks dirty when its clean unless you polish it . I think i saw you once when you had a fiesta .

yeah i dont do nowt with kroozing no more, keep my self to my self now really. Yeah my missis lives in c'fon so we are there 3 days a week.

Will have to have a look at your car... yeah the orange is a good colour to keep clean. washed it again earlier was bored LOL
