Door handle securing nut.

The handle of my 172 wouldn't screw in properly, so I tried a self tapper with a slightly coarser thread. When I went to screw it in, the plastic nut/thing the screw goes into snapped off and fell into the door.

Any idea how I could fix this? The handles now completely hanging off.

im not sure what they are called but they can be bought, similar to a riv nut, but with clips both sides
