Dirty Engine Oil - 1.5dCi and 182



The local main dealer uses Shell Helix Plus 10-40 in both the missus' dCi and my 182.

I appreciate it may not be the spot-on spec. or best oil for either but what concerns me more is the following:

Which do you think is from a car serviced 8 miles ago and which do you think is from a car serviced 1500 miles ago?

Now, admittedly the darker one has done 36,000 miles and the "cleaner" one only 13,500 miles but still....should any oil look that dark after only 8 miles?

Engine oil from a diesel car gets always black very fast. And thats the way it is. So it is very difficult to tell if the oil is new or old.
The oil should not get so black so fast for a petrol driven car.
