Dephaser Rattle ?

Hi One and All,
I am new to the site and just want some advice/help with what to do with my Clio Sport 172.

I have had my Clio for a month and it sounds like the dephaser is on its way out as there is a rattle and awful noise when applying more than 3k revs.
Having called 2 garages i am confused on what i should be paying.
All in with one garage was £625, Then another one claiming to be a clio specialist wanted £825.

I am not flush with money at he min as is the case with most nowadays, However i dont want my clio to go bang like a previous one did .
Can anyone recommend a garage near Huddersfield/West Yorkshire area which can solve my problem and not charge the earth ?

Clio sport 172 with Aircon is around £600 at a specialist with all genuine parts.

Huddersefield isn't far from Leeds.. Rs tuning will be your best bet, all specialists will be around 600 as price of parts isn't cheap

thanks for the replys, I was hoping someone might be able to do it for around £400 but i guess that its the parts that make it an expensive job.

The only way its a cheaper option is you just change the aux belt if its recently been done- ( instead of the kit)
that saves around £40

thus the parts will be around £225.

TBH though its a bit pikey

A rattly dephaser won't kill the engine. There are people on here that have driven for a year+ with it clattering away.

If the belts aren't due on time/mileage then just wait and save up.

i see the only issue is if i give it some sounds like there is a right cloating noise inside and last time i had that the engine died with the fault determined as the timing belt jumped and i had to get rid as a non runner.

Ive never heard of a dephaser causing the belt t jump on an F4R. I may be mistaken though.

Obviously it's not ideal to drive it sounding like a tractor, but plenty of people do without issue. I bought a 182 once that the dephaser was so fucked it wouldn't idle! Woman said it was like it for 3 years! (8 year old car on original belts!! Lol)
Fitted belts and a new dephaser and it was sweet as a nut.

I'd do what Daniel says. Just run it with a noisey dephaser until you are either in a better position to afford the work or wait until the next belt change is due.

From what you've said, that doesn't sound like Dephaser. Opposite infact. My betting is something like a loose AUX bracket or fuel rail guard. Pop a video up and it'll help us a lot.

You sure its the dephaser? They normally rattle on idle and then shut up above 1700rpm

well i cant get the funds to fix it so am selling it wanting £800
