Declaring mods.

Not sure if this has already been covered but need to ring up my insurance when my house phone gets fixed as I can't ring up using minutes being a 0800 number, is it best to tell them exactly everything or just say for example 'different Clio spoiler' 'different Clio other parts etc'

as well I would be ringing up half way through this years policy would it be worth mentioning that I'm on a club forum or not?

My alloys, exhaust, spoiler, bumper which is getting sorted soon, grill, fog lamps, do I need to mention my stereo and sub?

Should already be delcared ;)

But yes be specific, if you are with a good insurer everything will be like-for-like replacement, though if you haven't told them already I presume it's not a modified specialist, so prepare for some nice fees :(

PSML. Good luck if you crash, trying to explain you have un-declared mods because you can't use a phone.

To be honest depending on whatt he mods are, the estimators are mostly clueless anyway and unless it jumps out at them they won't look in to it much. (used to work in insurance repair bodyshop).

Should still declare though.

Rang up, got my turini's on my policy but they said they wouldn't let me declare my cup spoiler because its something that they don't do or something, wondering if they think its some fat GT wing or something, they told me to ring back in a couple of days with what I'm doing about my cup spoiler

Who are you with for your insurance?

With 1st central insuance.

  Clio Rs 200T
Ahh im with Hastings and I declared head unit said to them about colour coding and they were fine with that. But they was not keen on a new set of alloys :/

You need a specialist insurer really.. if it is just minor cosmetic mods, they wouldn't effect the policy price with us or most specialists..

Any problems, feel free to get in touch, tel: 01707 642552

If its not on the standard car then it has to be declared iirc. Even if it is a different clio spoiler. Its still non standard

First central covered wheels up to £1000 without notifying them, stereo equipment up to £500 but wouldn't cover lowered suspension when I was with them a couple of years ago.

Aviva threw a wobbly when i declared my alloys...

grill - fine
bumper - no problem
sub & head - perfect
lowering springs - dandy
alloys? - get fucked

Ended up agreeing & adding them but they were really childish about it and told me they will now refuse any extra modifications..

They even charged me £2 to add my CS sticker on. c***s.

you our told them about a sticker? I'm going to ring up and ask to talk to a manager or something to get it sorted, don't think I can really leave 1st seeing as I've had my crash and there's a claim going through and that.

Sky insurance on here were realy good for mine..
They understand its a track car and not a boy racer car.
was cheaper with mods declared than most companies wanted for a standard car.
You speak to someone like your standing next to them rather than the usual insurance script readers who know nothing about cars.

Get an app that allows you to use 0800's at standard rates and then you'll be insured, will save you not only the cost of a phone call but also £ 200.00 and 6 points.

0800 Wizard for example.

I know it feels like a rip off, being on hold for 20 minutes at 40p per minute, but like insurance you're just going to have to pay...

It shouldn't matter as the car comes with alloys!

So standard renault alloys vs (example) turinis:

One costs significantly more to replace if crashed
One makes the car/wheels more attractive to potential theifs
One is statistically fitted by the type of person more likely to end up upside down in a ditch.

Please tell me, from an insurer's risk management point of view, how fitting different alloys makes no difference just because it already had alloys of some description?

I've had a look on sky insurance and debating on ringing up for a quote but can you leave the current insurance just by telling them or would I have to wait for my renewal to come up, as well with a claim on me how would I go about that, would I have to stay with current insurer till that's sorted or not?

Sorry to hijack slightly, I'm paying £720 at age 20 on my cup, if I was to put the following on my car how much do you think it would change?

springs
exhaust
induction
xenons (declare or not?)
remap
buckets

and also do you have to declare if you strip out

thanks for replies

So many variables that no one other than your insurance company could tell you.

Holy jesus f**k.

The spoiler, you've created your own problem. I'd have just left that well alone. It's a renault clio part, on a renault clio. Simples.
