Decision time....

Doing 60 miles a day in a noisy 172 is starting to get to me - I'm thinking about selling the clio and getting something more suitable. I've got a few choices.

The clio is due cambelt/aux belt/dephaser any time now and at £650 its almost half the value of the car.

1) Sell it now as it is.
2) Get the work done and sell it.
3) Keep running it and risk engine failure.
4) Get the work done and keep it.

Its been a brilliant car and i'll be sad to see it go, but is doing 15k miles per year in a 10 year old 112k mileage 172 really a good idea?

If you sell it now as it is, people are 'probably' going to want to take off the amount for a full cambelt job from the price. In which case it wouldn't sell for what you think it's worth.

If you get the work done and then sell it it's almost just splashing out for nothing. Because you wont see any benefit from your funds. You will just sell it for what you already feel it is worth.

If you keep it and risk failure then you could potentially be at a 1500 odd quid loss and be left with nothing apart from scrap parts, which in my eyes is just hassle!

It's a tricky one, seeing as the belts are due just as you fancy a change. If it was me I would get the belts done (from a specialist of course) and keep it.

Or if you've really had enough and fancy change, try your luck and sell it as it is. You never know you might get near what you think its worth and wont need to splash out on getting the belts done. I'd have to mention they need doing though in the advert, I couldn't live knowing I had sold a ticking time bomb for engine failure.

I do 20k a year in a noisy old Clio so I say keep it.

Mine needs a dephaser change and I almost sold it rather than get it done but decided to do the work and keep the car.

Swap back to standard what makes it noisy/uncomfortable, get the work done and keep it.
Selling the bits could help pay for the work needed?

You could definitely make it more comfortable but do you want to?

Do you want something more refined? But end up boring?

Ideally I'd keep the clio and buy something new but i just can't afford to run another car.

Do the things that need doing and keep it, if u put it back to standard u will miss the noise within a week guaranteed
