Custom map or anyone with rs tuner in northants

Was going to take it rs tuning leeds just can't justify 2.30hr there 2.30hr back for not alot of gain it's has ktec map at the moment so could be fine but she seems to be running rich puffing what looks like soot under hard acceleration

Anyone know a good mapper northants or anyone with an rs tuner willing to pop a map on for some cash

RStuner will lock the ECU. I would personally go to RStuning. have a nice day out!

If it's only just started running like crap the problem probably isn't the map.

My opinion. Spend the day taking it to Paul at RS Tuning or Scoff at EFi. If it is worth doing, it is worth doing properly. Or put an RS Tuner map on it if you want non-custom.

I had a k-TEC map with a cam package on mine. It started puffing, then using monumental amounts of oil. The end result was an engine swap.

Got it private and they guy I brought it from brought it with ktec map already on i believe it's like a blue ish puff under hard acceleration

Blue smoke usually indicates it's burning oil mate, so probably not the map in my opinion.

Oh yeah, and it's bought, not brought.

Using oil won't be anything to do with the map.

Blue smoke will be oil getting past the rings and burning in the chambers.
thats an issue you need to have a garage look at

I agree that the smoke is caused by oil burning, and I'm afraid OP that could be something terminal.

But saying the map has nothing to do with using oil isn't correct. If it was mapped badly, it may be why the rings have gone hence the oil now making it past them.

Sounds eerily familiar to my old engine.

Good point. I just meant the map isn't the cause now as the damage is done. But the map could have caused it I suppose. Would have to have been a badly made map tho rite?

I think there's a bit of jumping to conclusions going on in here!

Theres no way of us knowing why it's burning oil at this stage, it could be rings yes, but it could be a multitude of other thigs too.

@alex1992 - if you aren't mechanically minded my suggestion would be to get the car to a local specialist and get them to diagnose the cause of the burning oil, then work from there.

I agree with both of you, OP get it down to a decent garage and get it checked. Until you know the problem, deliberating over the potential cause is a mute point.

And once you've diagnosed the problem, unfortunately proving it to be related to a map or any number of things is nigh on impossible.

@Diagro - yep, it would need to be a pretty bad map. Sadly, that level of mapping has been seen on here before..........

lol @ mute

Have we really had mapping SO bad that it's caused catastophic damage? Was the owner able to prove and do anything about it? (was it yours @Cub.?)

Lol at mute indeed! Clearly typing off the cuff on my phone isn't the best idea

Regards the engine mapping. Yes, we have. There is a thread still on here with 5 cars which had the same cam / map packages which had mapping on them which either did cause significant failure (mine, and Tommy G's) or was caught and corrected by another mapper before damage was done.

Of course, categorically proving that it was the map is never possible. Could be a whole contributory number of things. But, there was one common factor - all 5 cars seemed in reasonable health before the cam / map package was done. All 5 owners took it up with the specialist in question, and all 5 got differing responses.

Mine went from using a normal amount of oil, to breathing over 2 litres out of it in one track day. In the space of 6 months or so since the cam / map package was done.

It is to some degree water under the bridge, and you take a risk whenever you modify an engine. But it certainly made me do a lot more research into who I let work on the car / use for mapping.

Thanks for your replys guys think I need to get it checked guessing it's head off and inspection I'm in northants so would mick@dimond be the man for the job or do rs tuning do this work too could get it all done in one go?
