Clio 182 - Dyno results / Clutch suggestion

  Clio 182
First of all I need a suggestion for a clutch as I was told yesterday that mine needs changing soon even though the car only has 34,500 miles!!!

I have a quote of around £300 for labour but was wondering:
1. What is the best price for the OEM clutch and from where?
2. What is the best value for money uprated clutch?

Also below is my dyno run. Is 150 at the wheels a good result with:
1. K&N panel filter
2. Matched manifold
3. Superchips remap

why does it need changing?

Oh and the stock clutch is pretty good so its not worth uprating it. Should last double what it has though so check your not being told BS.

  Cup Turbo, Flamer
182 is PS not HP for starters and that's measured at the flywheel, you have to take tranny loss into account to get the power at the wheels

  Clio 182
what do u mean... how can it drop down 32bhp because its on rollers??

Estimated BHP at flywheel was 187BHP (190ps approx) but I did not put that up as what matters is the "at the wheels figure".

Before the mapping (but still with the filter and manifold I got 145 at the wheels, approx 180BHP (183ps) at the flywheel).

Did not get a reading without the K&N filter and matched manifold but I would expect it to be around 140 at the wheels (173BHP, or 176ps).

The clutch feels shuddery most times especially when disengaging 1st gear (best way I can explain it). Any other ideas? (maybe clutch cable???)

  Clio 182
Decided to try to change the clutch cable and see if it gets better.
If not then I will change the clutch but it will have to wait as I am broke at the moment!!!

  Clio 182
Also read that clutch ratchet might be the reason for the clutch squeaking and sometimes sticking.

Will change cable first and then might try the ratchet before changing the whole clutch.

Was there a mechanical interference lately ?? My clutch was very hard to press once the new engine was fitted. Guy from the workshop said it will never sit like the oryginal one, but after few months its a lot better.

You better of checking one of the engine mounts or gearbox mounts, maby there is a displacement of some sort, and it could be the reason

Wow i wonder what my 173 hp at the wheels are when reading this

^^ i'm just saying that when 145 at the wheels is 183 at the fly , then my 173 wheelpower must have twohundred + a lot at the fly !?

naahhh , do'nt think so

145 BHP ATW calculated as 180 BHP at the fly (approx 19% losses)

The 183 was just the conversion to PS which only serves as a comparison to the name Clio 182

Result varies from RR to RR
my first RR run shown 167,7BHP at the flywheel and only 126,1 at the wheels
Imagine my disappointment
Next time I RR the car it was 177,3 and still only 126,4 at the wheels :/ how wrong is that ??
And I've only picked that RR since it supposed to be the most reliable
I could go to my local tuner RR where everyone gets 10BHP free if You know what I mean :D

I bought the car on Monday and it was like that. Do not know if anything was done to it beforehand.

I checked the engine mount and it is ok

when buying it on monday , the guy saying "it will all be okay in a couple of months" MAY BE trying to talk himself out of a warranty issue ??

Get another opnion from a specialist or something ; do;nt know if you have warranty on the buy you did ?

Hard to press clutch pedal You can live with I guess
The sound You talk about bother me most.
Any way if You clutch does not slip do not touch it, problem must be somewhere else, trust me.
My ph1 is actually harder to brake than I thought ;)
Few times I thought my clutch is gone and every time there was something else wrong with the car, something smal and benign

  Clio 182
It does not slip but it is difficult to release it when on 1st gear and make the car leave smoothly without pressing the gas pedal a lot or risk bogging down

why rule out a clutch fault just because the clutch does not slip??

A heavy pedal could be a faulty pressure plate which could give the reason why he gets shuddering etc. sure i would check clearance and travel first but i dont think tht it should be ruled out, IMO.

Surely I could be wrong, but If I remember correctly this clutch has only 35k on the road. No way its gone now unless some blonde chick drove it half clutched all the time :) my cluth is 175000km (including new engine and day to day tortures given by me :) I drag race on 1/4 and it surely doesn't help ;)

still my clutch is fine, go figure :)

Lets stay on the topic
Can you record the sound it makes ?? It could be the clutch bearing but this is a recognizable sound
If it's anything else the sound would be different.

I will record the sound and put it online soon mate.
It is more the crutching feeling when pressing it (even without a gear in) and the vibration when leaving with 1st that bothers me but maybe the noise will help you figure out what's wrong.

BTW forgot to mention that when it is cold it is much better, gets worse when it warms up.

I have a 3rd party warranty with Auto Protect but It says that clutch facings are not covered. Do you think that bearings might be covered?

midoi you have classic engine mount play symptoms.

vibrations when the car comes on cam?

jerky when pulling away?

That's what I thought but mount was removed and checked and is in perfect condition. No vibrations when comes on cam, just when pulling away.

Thats the valeo oem clutch by the look of it so thats the best to get. If you trust the local garage then let them do it but it is a b*****d of a job. Just check they know what they are getting themselves into.

Very good day today I might say :)

Jamsport replaced my clutch and it's night and day.
Easy to use, much lighter and no vibrations at all, feels like a new car!!!

Had to replace the whole thing as replacing the clutch wire did not make a difference but as it was damage not related to tear and wear the warranty company should cover some if not all of the cost.

Also below is the dyno run using a new map Jamsport developed for their matched manifolds. Power is up to 156WHP now :approve:
