Car squeeling like a pig...

Im a dope i sprayed engine degreaser all in the engine bay and some has gone on the fan belt now when im driving and take my foot of the accelerator it proper squeels need this solving any ideas? Was thinking pouring water on it and wiping it or spray it with WD40 i dont know its really annoying me though!!! HELP!

Don't spray more lubricant on it. That's why it's squealing. You have put a lube on something that is run with friction. I'd buy a new belt, clean the pulley and learn from a silly mistake!

Find a big puddle/lake you can drive in, hold the revs at 3k whilst you roll/drive in, let it soak for a while, then let the revs die down, you need the water about bonnet level, this will stop the squealing.

You ever drove through a puddle and your car squeeks like mad its bit like that il get a tooth brush on it and then rub a bar of soap on it il take my chances the belt is new... its just a bit of lubricant on it i will let you know if it does the trick!!

I'd probably listen to GRitch.

Or perhaps spraying brake cleaner on the belt???? Not sure whether or not that would ruin the integrity of the rubber though.

Yeah im agreeing with Gritch guys £12 for a new belt picking it up thursday and replacing it no pointing cutting corners ive inspected it and i can see a few lines in it so im just going to change it whats the timing belt change like how much to do? heard its 75k miles! I probably could change it myself to be honest...

Don't troll, it doesn't suit you. Unless you have the specialist tools don't let your butter fingers f**k your car. You lubed up a belt and now you want to change a Cambelt? Good lad, send me pics of it for the Lols. It's every 150k or 8 years, whatever comes first mate FYI.

It might be trapped between the exhaust manifold and engine, probably explain why it's been squealing a lot lately. Can you smell bacon too?

I had this on my 1.6 and it turned out to be the quantum factor pully that sits just behind the DMF.

It's an easy change

I got it after I took my car to Dan@SJM for AUX / cam belt etc.

Aux belt squeel would be my guess. Is it bad when you first start it and when the car is on full lock?

Thanks guys to the normal responses some right mongs on here with their childish responses... thanks for the video see mine doesnt do that on start up it tends to proper squeek when im in gear and my foots off the accelerator (going at speed) also noticed it only does it after the engines warmed up, i will try and do a video see if i can get the noise! It doesnt squeek when its out of gear and stood still does the odd squeek when i rev it...

It doesnt make the noise in neutral, say im going 30mph and i lift my foot off the accelerator it starts squeeling soon as i touch the pedal it goes.. let go its there.. put it on it goes! Sooo you could be right with cam belt might have to just inspect it

i had this exact problem, it would squeak when coming off the accelerator but it went after i had my belts done.

It does it when im driving but when i take my foot off the pedal.... im starting to think some of the degreaser has gone onto the the cam belt sooo tomorrow im going to inspect that maybe get the engine steam cleaned!

My point exactly silly comments it says 'toothbrush' not a wire brush a soft toothbrush.. and guess what? it worked the noise has gone took it on a 10-15 mile ride not one noise! must of been speckles of grease on the belt and ive brushed them off!

  Renault Clio 1.6 16v
Noise is back and its really starting to P**S me off!!! drove to the hospital was fine 10 mins in the noise starts going for it each time i lift of the accelerator its a long eeeery noise, whistles the lot has anyone got any proper ideas from the video?

Rather than scrubbing it with a toothbrush why not take it to a mechanic that knows what they're doing?

Or you could just put some talcum powder on it and keep ignoring the problem.

Because ive been ohh replace the fan belt he says paid to get it done drove it round the corner just did the exact same problem!
