Blue paint on engine parts

A mate of mines who owns a 2003 172 is having a bit of a panic.

He hasn't had the car very long, and dragged me outside yesterday and popped his bonnet asking me if I thought anything looked a bit strange.

I couldn't see anything until he pointed out little dabs of blue paint over a lot of the engine parts.

Expansion tank, brake fluid bottle, engine mounts, battery, airbox, metal brackets and a load more.

Now this looks like the paint dabs used by scrap dealers when you buy a part from a scrap car, but for all these parts to be sourced from a scrap yard surely makes you wonder what the history of the car is.

Is this a normal Renault thing? Or is his engine made up of many scrap parts?

I won't see him again for a couple of weeks, but will try arrange a pic.

I've had a search on some pics and a few I have seen have the same paint, others don't.

I assume that this may be factory? and not scrap.
