Av receiver?

  Z4
Are they any good?
Or would I be better off sticking with a separate amp&preamp?

I want to do things properly, cba with buying something substandard and wishing I'd spent that bit more!

Im not fussed for features, it's all about the sound quality for me. Needs to pack a punch for some loud music too.

This looks good: http://www.whathifi.com/review/denon-avr-2310

Thoughts! Cheers

Are you looking at having a surround setup pal, or more of a hifi system?

Or both?

Also, what's the budget?

  Z4
Both, preferably!
I listen to a lot of music, but I am planning on getting a projector etc so it would be rude not to have optimum audio to compliment.

Ill initially be starting with the amp and a couple of floorstanders, later adding a couple of bookshelf speakers, sub and centre if needed.

That's a good amp although you can get a bargain on the AVR 2312 at the min.

I'm on my 2nd Denon AV receiver now and they've both been faultless and sound superb to the point I will probably stick with them next time.
Obviously if you get a higher model it will do home cinema and music better but that should be a very capable amp and will have no probs driving floorstanders.

Good shout that..
My only worry is that its not powerful enough? I.e would it cater for a house party sufficiently?

Denon seem like the way to go.
would there be a great difference between something like the above compared to a similarly priced separate amp?

Cheers!

I really don't think you need a separate amp. AV revievers are very good these days and the ones above will impress unless your used to really top end stuff.
They've come along a long way in the last couple of years (mainly the network features) and for that reason I would pay the extra for the 2312 I posted.
It will be more than loud enough for a reasonably sized living room with decent floorstanders + a sub preferably...
How loud stuff is deceptive with AV marketing. Something at 200W on 4ohm sounds better than 100W at 8ohm but they should be around the same and crap like that

I've got a demon 1912 and love it. Plenty loud enough and very good quality. Love the airplay as well.

Thanks for the replies guys, just the sort of answers I was hoping for.

Im no audiophile, but I can notice the difference in qualities between things.
It sounds like a Denon would be perfect, as said I'd be pairing it with some q acoustics 2050i in gloss white, and probably some 2020i, a centre and decent sub.

I probably will mate, I've heard a few bad things with RS customer service though, they often don't want to know.
Ill see if John Lewis have anything in stock as they're awesome tbh

I don't think John Lewis sell Denon receivers. Best going to Richer Sounds or buying online.

Never had a problem with Richer Sounds, I don't listen to their sales pitch as I just go in for what I want but their customer service has always been very good.

I've not heard the 2050i's but if they're like the 2020i's they'll be great.

lol, best way, they just push whatever pays the highest commission at the end of the day. Got my TV from them and like you, no problems.

OP, might be worth checking out RS clearance deals as I have seen some good deals on AV receivers recently.

I've never had a problem with richer sounds myself, I know of a few people that have been dissapointed with the in store staff when it comes to actually trying stuff out, refusing to set things up etc sometimes!

Ive read up on the q acoustic speakers online and the 2050i and 2020i both seem more than enough for my needs. The floorstanders look great in gloss white too!

I have the 1010i's and the sound quality is brilliant, remarkable given the price they were. The 2000 series are even better and it seems the 2050i's will be the same and pack a big punch.

Just be wary of the amp power, you don't want your amp to be clipping as it will ruin the speakers. I only know a little about this so won't go into it in case I misinform you but worth looking into if loud is very important. Also you should be able to run multi-stereo to use the rears for music or connect them up as additional front speakers which will help for house parties if you can move them around.

Multi stereo is on my 1912 so guess its on the better ones. can shake the lights upstairs and the glasses in the kitchen cupboard and thats with quite a small kef set up lol

I've got a Marantz 1602 and it's awesome!

Sound quality is excellent and it's only half the size of most other AV amps.
