Advice Needed...Aux Belt Slipped Off!

Basically I was at Snetterton today when coming into Nelson during my 3rd time out lost power steering and stop/battery light comes on. Limp it back to pits and open the bonnet to find coolant boiling out of the coolant reservoir and the mess below! I've been told that the bracket has snapped on the alternator apparently causing it to come loose which in turn has slipped the aux belt off. To fix this it needs a new alternator and a new aux belt the garage tells me.

As it's not at a well know Renault specialist just want to check if this all sounds right and whether anything else needs checking/fixing while it's getting done?? Does the whole aux belt set up need changing or will just a new belt be OK??

You sir, were very f**king lucky! If it had gone the other way your timing belt would've had it.

Get the aux belt kit not just the belt.

Is the aux belt a straight forward job then or something a non Renault specialist will struggle with??

They should be ok.

Kit is 3 parts.

Belt
Idle pulley
Tensioner

Bumper off.

Thanks for the check list, I'll be ringing first thing in the morning to check that's all getting done!

Belt had been slipping slightly on full lock previously to this so I'm guessing the broken alternator bracket would have been causing this?

Id say so, belt loosing tension.

Kit is £50 ish from Adam @ Wolverhampton Renault.
It can be bought from ECP but its £150.

Dont let them charge you for a ECP one.

Jeeesus Phil, how ever did you get away with not lunching the cam belt? Especially as you were probably giving it hell at the time
