A little help :)

  Clio 200 cup
Hello all, viewing a 182 cup today and just wanted some help with what to look out for, it's a 2004 iceberg silver cup FF done 68k and not had a cambelt but this thing is pretty cheap it's got FSH 2 owners from new current being a women, just wondered how much is a cam belt aux belt waterpump change on one of these? As I'm going to try and knock it down so I can afford it seeing as I'm only 18 and insurance is 2k lol  cheers for looking.

Okay, for a start it's not a Cup.

It will be a 182 with Cup Packs. Cambelt you're looking at £500 from someone trusted.

I wouldnt be wasting my money @ 18 on a 182- a 4k car all in with 50% of the cars value on insurance-

I would buy a smaller engined Clio & do some smart subtle mods--- Ive seen some stunning ones on here---
you then pay around 2k for the car & perhaps 1k for the insurance- saving you 3k-

Plus, Your buying a bottom end car just to buy a 182- If your deperate for a RS then buy a mint 172- perhaps a flamer or a nice monaco....--
pay your £10 & have a look in the classifieds on here- you generally get a better looked after vehicle on here-

either way
best of luck

I've got a 1.2 already slammed on coilovers and bbs rm reps full colour code and it's clean as fuk ( I love detailing) but I want more speed without loosing the look as Clio sports are stunning cars and the money side doesn't really phase me ( sorry if that sounds ignorant) I suppose it does seem odd having that sort of car at 18 my dream colour is rb but there isn't many around :( cheers for replys

Right, went and looked at this 182 it was a nice clean example only 2 little door dinks on passenger door apart from that body work was mint, had a look at the back box and it's rusted to death so will need replacing 3 Tyres are bassicly illegal and the dreaded cambelt wants doing knocked her Down from 3500 to 2800 which i thought was good what do you guys reckon? Cheers

Roffle.

A fool and their money are easily parted. WTF is she doing knocking £700 off the price of a car??

cambelt service, a decent ss exhaust and a good full set if tyres is gonna be over a grands worth of work...
chances are it will also need some suspension/brake/steering parts and the dints removing will soon add up too.

if you dont mind a little project supose £2800 is a bargin, but bare in mind you sinking a lot of cash into a car that you wont always get back if you it sell on!!!

imo i would get a mint 172 thats got good/full sh and had the belts done for £3k, plenty in the club for sale around that money...

about 300 quid just for the belt, but about 500 for the belt and tensioners, little things to look out for such as the drip tray is still under the engine, original seats are in the back they should be sweade and leather. and make sure the head light washers work, as they are common to block and are a annoying to unblock, having to take the bumper off. the steering you will hear when full locking the car, but shouldnt be really loud. anyway good luck mate. they are brilliant and you wont regret buying it i have just owned mine over 3 weeks now lol.

f**k me how did you get insurance on a 182 at £2k? Im paying £1800 on my 1.2. Id double check that one for starters, apart from that do what you want to though, some people say paying so much for insurance is stupid, but if its what you really want then go for it :)

Look for the obvious such as rust spots in arches, tears/burns on interior, HPI check the car, look for signs of overspray, see if any MOT cert's had advisories that were loking to get worst in the long run.

70k miles on an 04 isn't too bad really, but the cambelt will need doing ASAP.

  Clio 200 cup
That is very cheap.

Have you HPI'd it? Find it hard to believe someone took a 20% hit on a price just like that..

Yeah all clear, I thought that myself but she's desperate for money as she's buying a motorbike and the one she wants is just down the road and apparently very cheap hence she was willing to take stupid money.

  Clio 200 cup
f**k paying nearly as much as the car for insurace! Your money though.

Needs its belts doing, should have been done last year, so cheaper the better really. TBH thats abit to cheap???

I know it's bad but that's cheap for me most people are paying that for 1.2s nowadays, yeah belts are overdue which I used against her the only thing that worries me is if she knows something I don't and wants Rid of it but it drove well etc.

your lucky its 2k, i looked at a 55 plate 182, the insurance. £8500 cheapest quote. i just lol'd

Just a general thought on this... OP said it has FSH. But the cambelt hasnt been done. Isnt the cambelt part of the 36k/5year service?
Therefore, it hasnt totally got FSH?

Just wondering, as I bet that there are quite a few ads out there that say FSH, but havent had cambelt done.

I say good luck to the lad

He's found a cheap 182 that he can throw a bit of money at and make sure it's safe.

As had been said, get your £10 membership paid, and get it booked in straight away with a local specialist (off here) to do your belts. Then look at getting a stainless and renewing a few suspension parts

As for tyres, dont skimp. They are the only thing that keep you in contact with the road. Michilin Pilot Exalto's or Hancook V12

£2k is a good price at 18, cant believe how much insurance has gone up this year, some of my quotes have been £2k recently on the thing!

I got a cheap 182, and while I have had a fair few problems (especially recently), they could of happened on any 182 I bought tbh. Its a gamble, and i'd rather gamble on a cheap one and if i have to fix it then at least I got it cheap than buy an expensive 'mint' one which may still need the work anyway.

2k isnt bad at all. I couldnt get close to that and i tried everywhere. Im 19 too. What company did you get that quote from?

Oh and great price on the 182.

If you have £5k for a 182, aren't you better off finding one for near that which needs nothing doing to it at all? Seems a bit odd buying a particularly cheap one just to go and spend £1k plus to sort it out...?
