The LG C7 55" is now £1349. I've refunded the one I bought Friday and ordered the new one. Bit of a faff. It'll probably go down again on Friday :weary:

I won't lie, the soundbar is stupidly priced really. That said, it's the best sounding soundbar I've personally heard. Arguably it can't compete with a high-end enthusiast 'separates' system but it's bloody impressive. The Atmos effect (it's a 5.4.1 setup) works very, very well but it does depend on the room geometry and having a flat ceiling (it bounces the sound from the ceiling that is fired from two upward drivers on the soundbar and one upward driver per rear speaker). I replaced my 20 year old Sony 5.1 digital amp and speakers and this is every bit a match for that system (although not as loud at 'only' 500 watts RMS - which is more than adequate for my living room!) The HMDI-ARC is great so that I can actually get two-way audio to/from the TV on HDMI channel 2 and that leaves me with 2x HDMI in on the soundbar for the Xbox One X and the BluRay player. There is no third HDMI in hence my Sky box is plugged into the soundbar using an optical cable. When in operation I can then use audio over wi-fi to the soundbar, or via HDMI if I want the full Dolby Atmos experience (assuming the content supports and delivers the Atmos audio).

Music sounds real good. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the integrated speakers in the soundbar manage all frequencies across the audible sound spectrum. The in-built sound-processing (whilst arguably gimmicky) do work very well, too - i.e. the 'live' mode to isolate and bring vocals to the fore, and so forth. As everything is connected via wi-fi and Bluetooth I can directly stream Spotify, Google Music, etc. straight to the soundbar as well and - as said - it works great purely for music (as well as gaming, movies and general tv).

Is it worth the cost? Hmm. Tough one. I'd probably say it's a few hundred quid too expensive if I'm honest. It blows away lesser and cheaper soundbars but you aren't half paying a premium for it right now. I'd highly recommend a demo beforehand, ideally at a specialist retailer where you can get a true impression of the hardware. Sometimes an open, expansive showroom floor doesn't give an ideal result!

Appreciate the detailed response there Sharky!

Checking out the reviews of that sound bar and it looks to be the best of the bunch and, and like you said, cost a bit more that what you might expect a soundbar to cost. Im not sure if I could bring myself to spending that much on one though! I think ill check out the reviews of the lower end samsung / yamaha ones.

Your setup looks ace by the way!

You're welcome mate and thank you. There's a good range of soundbars to choose from these days so I would definitely recommend reading around a few different AV forums and then trying to experience firsthand one or two units that you are potentially interested in.

I know some of you frequent the AV Forums. @SharkyUK maybe.
Is there any chance someone could get me the proper picture settings for this tv please.

Hi mate - sadly I haven't come across any settings for that specific set and the panel it uses. Sorry! That said, it's a good tv for the price. However, if you are after impressive HDR as well as decent 4K UHD then you might want to stretch the budget a bit if you can; tests have found it to max out at around 360 nits (a lot of HDR content is mastered around the 1000 nits mark) hence it isn't particularly effective on this Sony. My Samsung, in contrast (no pun intended), reaches up to 1500 nits for HDR peak level (although, admittedly, that's a lot of what you're paying for with the more expensive sets). Something like the Samsung MU7000 is a good option but you're probably looking at another 200 quid on top of the item you listed.

The sony is being delivered tomorrow and for my basic sky Q movies and the likes it will be fine. Thanks anyway @SharkyUK
If anything pops up just let us know, cheers.

Tbh I was reading that one settings from one display to the other aren't necessarily the same and could potentially make the picture worse even if the TV model number is the same. Maybe that's just with oled, which btw looks like a nightmare to setup compared to what I have already.

55" Led TV, budget of £500-£800 max.

Will i notice any difference between the Samsung MU6400 and MU7000? (At £629 and 799 respectively)

Both get excellent reviews. It seems that the 7000 has a faster refresh rate and different stand? I'm not keen on LG as they use glossy screens which seem to reflect too much light. My current tv is a ten year old 32" Samsung LCD which has been faultless!

If you have a PS4 Pro or Xbox One X (capable of HDR gaming) or you want to experience HDR then definitely go for the MU7000. It has a 10-bit panel (55" and above) as opposed to the 8-bit in the 6400. That said, the difference will not be massive between the two for HDR. The 7000 also has the better panel, higher refresh and more advanced dynamic colour tech and is superior across the board. Personally I'd stretch the little extra for the 7000.

I managed to get the LG OLED55BV7 from Argos for £1310 with a combination of a good deal, a voucher code and and an the inability of the person on the phone to use a calculator, delivered same day too.

So far absolutely blown away by it  The blacks from OLED really are immense, I was drooling watching the Aston Martin Vulcan review on The Grand Tour in a dark room last night 😂

Sharky you seem to know your stuff.
Any LG's worth looking at for similar price or stick to the MU7000. Just got an XBOX one x one x one x and not sure what to get.

At that price point, I would personally favour the Samsung over LG due to the typically lower latency for gaming. LG sets used to have issues with latency but modern sets and firmware mean this is no longer a problem. LG's make great sets and panels but the MU7000 is pretty hard to beat if you want a reasonably priced tv with good all-round features, delivery and performance.

NOTE: Xbox One X owners...
If you've got a 4K HDR capable TV then it might be worth checking to ensure you have the recently released One X update. You can manually check through the One X settings and download the update. Basically, the One X didn't decode the colour information correctly before sending it to the TV - hence the black levels were completely out of whack and some colour hues appear a little off. The update fixes the black level issue and goes a long way to fixing the colour hues problem. It's not a major issue, and only the purists will notice the colour issue, but it is worth getting the update purely to fix the black level problem.

I bought an LG 65uh615a. It’s a decent TV, but the internal speakers are terrible, and i sometimes struggle with sync issues between sound and vision from Netflix. I put it down to the abysmal internet out here, but is that the only reason?

I say that, because it only happens on streaming stuff.

I’ve changed the settings for streaming on the TV.

New TV was delivered the other day.

Went from an aging 42” LG. Which to be fair was a pretty decent TV.

To the OLED55E7 that Peter Tyson was selling for decent price. Had a few teething issues with zebra striping down the right hand side, but a pixel refresh sorted that out.

Also in other news, the BBC have decided to air Blue Planet II in Ultra HD (HLG) from the 10th December.

Read more about it here.

BP looked amazing in 1080p, I cannot wait to see what it's like in UHD.

I don't think sky are capable of broadcasting in HDR hence using the iPlayer app on your TV or using a 4k streaming box.
