182, Red "stop" light on with park brake light?

latest fault.................

Red "stop" light and park brake light flashing on while driving, with out brakes applied.

handbrake checked fully off, pads still have some life left in them and fluid level is ok?

anyone got any ideas?

I've got exactly the same problem! had it for abotu a month now but not so fussed about it as the handbrake is always off when it comes on and usually it just flickers - sometimes under high revving or high speed, otehr times when i pull off it comes on - think its just a dodgy connection but i cant be bothered to fork out for the dash being taken out to find out its not that!

Thinking my car needs a bit of an overhaul - think when the rents go away next month i'll take it to the garage as i'll be able to drive one of their cars whilst its in.

Btw - not to totally change the topic but does anyone know why my climate control (172 ff) blows through boiling hot air when its the ac is on and its set at the coldest setting - a mechanic said teh centre part of my exhaust is blowing but i havent had time to check it - could that be part of the problem?

Are you sure you checked the brake fluid reservoir correctly?

I had the same problem and it was the brake fluid low. I had checked the power steering fluid reservoir by mistake.

The brake fluid reservoir is low down behind the engine on the left hand side as you're looking at it.

I took it into a Renault specialist and they topped it up for free and problem was solved.

It's where my finger is pointing.

You may have to take the engine cover off if you don't have a funnel. Be careful not to overfil or let it spill.

i exact problem. Check the hand brake cable and the clips it sits in as well as all ur fluid levels.

Chris, thanks again.........nice dealer put a little more fluid in......was easier on the 182 as there is no engine cover at the back.

mine used to come on round bends , now better after fluid change brakes upgrade .
normally could indicate low level od brake fluid
