15w40 Diesel Oil - Can it be used to top up Petrol Engine

I need to top up my oil and went and bought this stuff out my local garage

Not noticing the massive DIESEL on the side. I went by the handbook stating 15w40 is best for the 182

Iv now noticed it says diesel and from reading through oil threads it seems 5w40 fully synthetic is best

Anyway Il be getting a service after around 1000 miles. I need a small top up as the oil level is low when I start the car. Can I use this stuff for the next 1000 miles without doing any damage to the engine?

5w 40 is what Renault recommend mate, and although some diesel oil is ok in petrol engines i would suggest that is too thick for yours

Yes putting half ltr or so in wont do any harm at all

not too thick, will be fine, just don't go doing a track day with it in there
