    Clunking and rotational noise

I've just replace my O/S drive shaft as I had a rotational clunking/grumble/road surface feeling like you mentioned before the the CV joint failed. I had a ticking/clicking noise on full lock too and the grumble progressively got worse till the joint failed completely. Sounded similar to a loose...

    squeal from windscreen

I had a replacement windscreen fitted to my old Cup by RAC windscreens as it was about to fail its next MOT due to a large chip in zone A. Couple of weeks go by and I notice, same as you have, a whistle/howl of air when travelling at 65-70mph. Took it back to the RAC and they re-sealed the...

    Strange washer jet problem...

+1 on the valve in the pump sticking one way or the other. Pretty sure you can strip it down and free everything up. Either that, or new pumps are reasonably cheap too.....

Air con - ticking under load??

Possibly not related but might help..... My A4 (B6 1.9TDi) has a chattering noise when the AC pump is off, but occasionally when on, and the reason for it is there are six two prong rubber 'bumpers' within the front pulley/clutch wheel. works a little like a dual mass flywheel with rubbers...

    Hi from Oz

Hi Ricethief! In my opinion this is one of the best and most active forums I've ever been on, compared to other car related ones. So I'm sure if you have any questions along the way, that haven't already been covered in the technical section (search function is definitely the first point of...

    Black 1*2 - Tesco Northampton

Spotted a Black 1*2 leaving Tesco (Northampton South) filling station (inner roundabout) at about 19:30 last night. Driver spotted me I think. I was in the (dirty) Monaco blue 172 coming into Tesco past the bus stops. Anyone on here?

    List of problems!

Pedal sensor: not sure why it would cause the ABS warning light as mentioned by as its only a push-to-break switch and if it fails your lights sit in the safe/on position. ABS ring: turn your front wheel to full lock in each direction (or pop the car on axle stands to see underneath) and look...

    List of problems!

+1 on the Rainsports, got them on all 4 corners of mine, very very stable/grippy in the wet (as you'd hope) and excellent in the dry! I had PS3's on my Audi and they were fantastic, but not cheap! I took off my wiper arms to remove scuttle and swap out the washer bottle, since putting it back...

Who still drives a clio or moved on

I owned my first RS Clio (172 Cup HT53 HRM) in 2008, and reluctantly sold it in 2012 as we were planning to start a family and bought a Mk4 Golf GT TDi PD130 . Spent the next 4/5 years grieving from my french loss, but enjoyed the German build quality, upgraded the Golf to an Audi A4 (B6) 1.9...

I concur. I found the hose needed extending for the washer too.

    Wet Footwells

My leak comes out behind the passenger door inside the car, from underneath the rear passenger's interior trim (under the seat pad below where the rear cup holder thing/rear speaker is). I removed the seat pad and ran the pump for the rear screen and it came sloshing out and down into the rear...

    Wet Footwells

Just as an extra thought: mine has been emptying the washer bottle into the rear passenger foot-well and wicking through the carpet toward the front of the car. I thought it was a door seal leaking and that the headlight washers were draining the washer bottle separately, but the emptying...

High Mileage Club - 100K plus.

My Monaco is on 111,600 miles at the moment (only done about 700 miles since I bought it in October last year). My daily Audi A4 on the other hand is a sniff off of 230,000 and, touch wood, still going strong! Good 'ol 1.9 tdi's.......

    Rumbling noise

I have found that an alloy that hasn't had the wheel bolts fully tightened/torqued and only finger tight (so small amount of play and loosen themselves) makes the same noises as a dying wheel bearing with the change in noise when changing direction etc...... Lets just say I wont be using that...

    My 172 Cup

My understanding of the braking system's peculiarities and what I have learnt over the years: The issue is that from the factory the Cup has a rear bias of only something like 15%, down to the fact that the rear of the car is proportionally so light compared to the front (with the weight...

    My 172 Cup

Welcome! Nice Cup! Rear brakes 'failing MOTs' on the Cups is common due to the low bias. I had repeat 'problems' with the rear brakes on my old Cup every year (in a Monaco 172 these days). There is a VOSA circular that used to come out that had an article about the low rear bias. I printed a...

I agree, Bosch are the way forward, went for the aero style ones for mine, something like £17-£18 for a pair on ebay IIRC.

    The Icarus thread v2.0

Hello all, Bought my Monaco 172 at the end of October from a former member on here. Have spent the last month or so getting her tidied up and fixing various issues with it. I thought the last owner sounded like things had been done properly and the car has had loads of bits replaced for the...

Icarus83 has returned to 172 land......

Yep, midlandsmonaco's old one. Looks smart from a distance, mechanicals seem to be OK apart from the brakes (at the rear I think) but needs a lot of tlc cosmetically..... Cheers, I know! I can't believe how the prices have dropped. Such fun for very little little cost!

Icarus83 has returned to 172 land......

Hello all, 5 years ago I sadly px'd my old Cup: But I'm finally back again in a Monaco 172. Picked her up on Tuesday, needed 2 rear tyres to make her road legal. Needs a good clean, headlights sorting as they are in a really bad way (see pic below), alloys smartening up and the brakes...

    Clio 172 Monaco - £899

Don't worry everyone, I'm planning to collect next Thursday and take good care of Little Miss Monaco. I see most of my old threads from when I had my Cup have disappeared, but it'll be good to get back in a hot hatch again (and I missed this forum!)! More importantly I'd like to think I'm not...

@midlandsmonaco I've been trying to get in touch with you about buying your 172. I sent you a couple of PM's yesterday on here and I've seen you've been online today but not yet heard from you. Grateful if you could get in touch to let me know if your car is still available or not please...

My Clio 182 has turned cold-blooded...

Although its a different car, my Audi A4 consistently showed a very low engine temp on the dash. Changed both temp sender and thermostat, now shows spot on temp. Shouldn't be a lot for both bits. I vaguely remember the temp sender on the F4R is on the front of the block.

    Northampton 172 Cup M66 G**

Young lady driving a lovely and mucky Cup, anthra wheels, spotted you heading up towards Tesco and along Mereway dual carriageway. Reg M66 G**. I was in an Audi A4 black estate along past the fire station (sporting an Audi-Sport.net sticker on the rear). You make me want my Cup back!!!

What do you say to people who call your car a 'girls car'?

Agreed, running my 130 PD GT TDI mk4 Golf with the stage 1 Revo map to approx 170 hp and 280 lb/ft of torque.......not so fast off the line after having my 172 Cup (or cornering as well either tbh) but goes like stink once rolling and is great fun. Think it is in the region of late 7 seconds to...
