Changed map sensor when I started this tread and the car has been fine since, so I guess the answer to my question is yes.

Can a faulty map sensor bring up the electrical fault light and put the car into limp mode which goes off when the ignition is switched off then on again? Niggly little fault which happened yesterday after once before on the 23rd April so very intermittent and no fault code comes up when scanned .

Just above each back light with the boot open you will see a round 10 pence size lug, take this out and put a small amount of silicone on the back and then put them back in, simples.
