Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

I agree TBH. Whilst I can and have completed some seriously difficult games, I prefer an experience that's fun and challenging, without ever being annoying. In my experience, annoying games are usually so because they're trying to last longer. Killzone 2 is a case in point. Demon's Souls sounds f**king annoying to me, so I'll pass on it.

Uncharted did have some annoying scenarios. The sequel managed to address that for me. I think there was only one time that I nearly smashed my house up, and that was due to grenades in the final showdown.

get stuck and give up? its not difficult at all.
just play it on regular difficulty.
I meant DS not Uncharted2. There are a few games that I've just found frustrating as Roy said, just want to kick the tv in and eventually given up. That's generally why I prefer sandbox, free roaming games so you can move on to something else. GT used to piss me off with the license tests, damn I nearly killed people on the harder ones. Uncharted 1 annoyed me in the level with the water filled room in the fortress and the countless enemies tooled up to the teeth. The final scene I found quite easy though.

No pause is not hardcore, it's gay. What happens if the phone rings, or you need a p**s, or your granny falls down the stairs? "Yeah, I'll be with you in a minute, I just need to finish this level. It's a right c**t!"

You can just move to an area without enemies and you will be fine should you wish to answer the phone or need a piss - I don't have a granny anymore.

Modern games are easy, get hit by a bullet don't worry just move to cover and you will 'magically' recover. That too hard? Well get killed and you will respawn 10 yards behind where you were. Not especially difficult?

Demon Souls isn't for everyone, it makes you tackle each enemy head on and makes you think about the battle. Every enemey must be engaged differently and efficiently if you are to survive. If you die the game rewards you with half health! If you restore your body and die the game gets harder! It does however run to a very strict set of rules, there are no 'cheap' deaths, every time you die and you will die often its because you did not think or ran ahead blindly. That sir... is why its hardcore:D

I think you would too Roy;)

TBH I don't know how I did it being a COD casual... But I did and have teh trophy to prove it;)

Finished Uncharted 2. Really enjoyed it. So much so that I'm playing through again. Want to find all the treasures and unlock more rewards

Losario was a bit of a b*stard, mind.

Are you playing through on a harder setting? As I am led to beleive Uncharted 2 is one of the 'easier' games to platinum as most trophies are offline related.

No going through on normal again to unlock more stuff first.

Bought loads of weapons, skins and effects for the game. Already found 5 treasures I didn't pick up first time around, and only on chapter 5. Also got quite a few more medals. The skins are quite cool, different clothes or even characters to play as

'On Crushing' ?

Maybe give the mp ablast Roy or the coop stuff, tis actually a lot of fun!

Go f**k yourself. Normal was hard enough in some places. I'll probably play it again on the same setting. Aiming with butt plugs is a nightmare.

I've got the majority of the single player trophies now. Still to nab around 10 or so (I need the 200 kills with the GAU and the 20 kills with the crossbow for the weapons trophies).

Going about treasure hunting now, though. Think I have 60 thus far. It's good you can select a chapter and it tells you how many you have on that quest. First 3 chapters I've got a full house of treasures.

just picked this up again tonight and was disppointed when my new 40"1080p screen said 720p when the game loaded up, why can't they make them 1080p!

still looks pretty but i can only imagine what it would look like in 1080p.....

Uncharted 2 has some pretty amazing visuals. To render them at 1920x1080 would bring the PS3 to its knees. The graphics cards in the consoles, simply put, don't have enough raw horse power to render those kinds of scenes in high resolution at playable frame rates.

The high end PC graphics cards can render that kind of stuff at 2560x1600 (1600p), but then they cost more than an entire PS3, or x360 for that matter. Games can't just keep getting better and better looking, indefinitely without the hardware being upgraded. With consoles, you generally have to wait at least 5 or 6 years for each upgrade to the 'next-gen' as it were, at which point you then get the hardware that PC's were using 2 years previous to that.

That's not intended to sound like a PC vs. console argument. It's just a fact.

If Naughty Dog could have got the PS3 to render the game in 1080p, I'm sure they would have. There is probably also an element of costs involved, offset against the percentage of gamers who have 1080p capable displays in the first place. I'm sure they will have optimised the engine as much as possible. I'm also sure they play tested at 1080 before deciding to lock it down to 720.

It looks pretty enough in 720p, TBH.

As it was my first game played on the PS3 over Christmas, it took me around 20 minutes to realise it wasn't my TV's fault for automatically setting the resolution to 720p. I was trying to change it back to 1080p for ages and even tried a few internet searches to find the reasoning behind it. Turns out there aren't many games that run at 1080p. I think WipeoutHD does, though.

it should in theory still scale it to 1080p if its your tvs actual resolution

i started playing it the other day and i hope its better than the first bit (the train) as that was boring only had 5 minutes on it and that cut scene after the train took most of that

I agree the train bit is a bit of a strange start, but all becomes apparent later on... it helps if you remember the route, too. There are also 5 treasures to be found on that Chapter ;)

i thought this when i saw the back of the game box. but ive put my ps3 to force 1080p and its showing 1080p on my tv for this game.

I know when i used to play the first uncharted when you would force the ps3 to put into 1080p mode it would go straight back to default 576p or something.
Im not sure if this is a new thing that the ps3 upscales the image now or the game plays at 1080p anyway.
Ive always played this on a samsung tv.

it looks pretty good at 720p obviously anyway.

I don't disagree with what your saying but would suggest the PS3 is more limited by ram than processing power, yes it has a shite rsx but 'teh' cell can do GPU stuff as well. The cell is a fair chunk faster at processing 'folding at home' cycles than some quad core pc's so it can do the raw number crunching and with a talented team such as naughty dog at the helm the PS3 can be utilised for some great stuff as they have shown, ultimatly 256 ram and 256 vram is a major bottleneck and more of a bottleneck than the processor imo.

I'm not familiar with the PS3 architecture so won't argue. Traditionally, upping resolution has been heavily dependent on the GPU. Either way, the answer to dk's question must surely be that the PS3 is not capable of running this game at 1080p? Nor should it be! Plus, it looks amazing in 720p anyway bar a few jaggies.

Yes it can only render it at 720P. Only 'full title' game I know it does at 1080p and 60FPS is Wipeout HD fury. This though utilises a special technology where some of the detail is dropped on different frames in every 'second'. Of course you don't realise if 15 out of 60 frames have less rendering on a bit of track and it allows less processing power hence the 1080p and 60fps .

Yeah racing games are no doubt a bit easier to squeeze definition and frames from, due to the more predictable nature, and the fact that less detail is required at speed.

Regardless, I think Uncharted 2 is a stunning looking game. Ignoring any geeky conversations about jaggies or frame rates, it looks amazing and plays even better. Top drawer 10/10 game for me. Worth owning a PS3 for :approve:

out of interest, how have you 'forced' your ps3 to 1080p as mine changes down to 720p for games in that res?

or is it the tv which is upscaling? my ps3 is set to 1080p.

I have no idea how you force the PS3 to play at 1080p, either. Mine auto sets it to 720p, regardless of what I do.

:S

Infact, I'm not even that concerned, as there's no point upping the resolution. The game is set to run 720p.

go to the display menu in the ps3 settings when asked to set the resolution click "manual" rather than "automatic" have only 1080p ticked and untick 720p. it will either play at 576p (i think it is?) or at 1080p if the game will do it.

will prob try this with other games to see if its just this game or other 720p titles are now upscaling or whatever to 1080p?

i know other 720p games would just default to standard def if you tried this as it wouldnt play at 1080p thats why originally wondered if something had changed as uncharted says 720p on the box?

Going to try this on hard and crushing for my Platinum trophy now

Shame I can't use my weapons from the store.
