172 Cup track toy build

Looks like it's going well Mark. What spring rates are you running?.

Thanks Tom! I bought the ASTs 2nd hand and there are no numbers on the springs unfortunately, I'd love to know. Even on softer settings they are close to unbearable on the road.

I'd agree with Tom, the 888's go off quicker than A048's as well and the side walls are no where near as stiff either so the car moves around a little more. Great tyres though sure you wont be disappointed......

I've been using NS-2Rs and RS-Rs so I'm expecting an improvement :)

Quick update,
Fitted new HC discs on the front with DS1.11 pads from @George@RTR_Parts , along with the 888s the car felt fantastic. I did a session scrubbing the tyres in, and as the day was quiet was looking forward to hammering it all day long, but the Clio had other ideas again, jumped in, harness on, helmet on, turned the key.....click.....battery dead. Jump started thanks to @Leslie Graham , but not charging, checked fuses, connections but the alternator died :rage::poo::unamused: Gave the battery a good charge off jump leads and headed off home trying not to use any extra power, every time I touched the brakes the volt meter dropped lol.

Got a good deal on a new alternator, so scrapped the idea of used........ just fitted....

Maybe the numbers are on the top/bottom of the spring, they will normally be etched in if not shown on sides. Just an idea

Epic fail at yesterdays foggy track day! My cam was only taking stills, I had the remote wrapped around the cage near my leg and I obviously was pressing buttons ffs 😧
Clio story in pics, to be different

I want to join the party

Great pics, must forward them to Keith.
Got that 'Idle Control Valve' yesterday, annoying really as it finished my day and took all of 30 seconds to fit!!!
Also might take a race up to Bishopscourt this Sunday to take a look at the Rallycross Revival 1st day (Not with Clio though). Looks interesting but want to see if it has any legs or just a hallions day out...

Let me know how it goes :)

Well I've not looked near the Clio since the last track day, time to address that! Decided, because race car to relocate the battery behind the passenger seat and finally wire the kill switch, nothing to do with boredom and work being quiet, honest!
Made a start tonight after fitting the stud conversion, it's cold out there lol

Really fancy some poly Windows now, but not sure if it's sensible as it's not garaged, more to come!

Looking good mate. The poly Windows are a bit of a pain if outside, mines leak in the rain through the little sliders but nothing to worry about. Definitely finish off the car great though!

Thanks Arran :) I was actually thinking about not having sliders, as much as I like the look, just a pop-it vent each side to get round the moisture issue but still let some air in. I need to keep this mot'd though so unsure if they would be a fail as I would want them bonded in so they would'nt go down?!

Pop it vents in the rear qtr windows, not the fronts!! They deafen you when they're open. Roof vent ftw tbqfh. I wished I'd done the roof vent route before I did the pop it vents in the front.

Good info! It was yours I was thinking of copying lol
Any idea if bonded in fronts will pass an mot? Also, is Marguard worth the extra on a track car, is lexan that hard to keep if no sliders?

Lol! The missus hates the front pop it vents after being stuck on the Brussels ring road in 30+ degree heat.

Bonded in fronts should pass an mot mate. Mine does!!

I'm on p4p polycarbs and they're not coated for protection. The cars garages though which helps no end. All I do is polish them with normal wax mate. Never had an issue.

Excellent, really don't want to fork out for marguard tbh so that's it settled, poly Windows it is :tongueclosed::cool:

Any other pland bud?

Hello mate, still not finished the battery relocation and kill switch wiring, been busy and the weather's been crap, the black thing hogs the garage lol. I'll be getting rid of the carbon canister and anything else that looks like it can go  Definitely doing poly Windows at some stage. Also want to lower the seats and drop the steering column to suit

Steering column just takes a bit of cutting, handy enough. Make shift bolt from threaded bar with 2 nylocs will do.
Canister easy, anything else opens up a world of possibilities. I've found another 24k weight loss.

Any more updates?

@MarkX

I didn't make the 1st track day of the year, I had a huge vet bill for surgery 😧 The next one is next Sunday so hopefully make that :grimacing: The cup hasn't made it out of the garage this year yet, poly windows are in and finally finished the battery relocation and kill switch wiring. Dropped the seat frames 28mm and the steering column 22mm, but think it needs to come down a bit more, need to actually drive it!

Seats a bit lower

Sitting prepped and ready for another day out :innocent: Just needs the dust blown off

Finally got the Cup out last Sunday, ran faultlessly again, roll on next month! Poly Windows, lowering the seats, relocating the battery, shedding weight from me and the car adds up, this time last year I was doing 1.14s at Kirkistown, this time was consistently into the 1.10s, still learning and enjoying it!

Hopefully I'll be knocking about too. Engine bought after piston through block moment at the end.
Can't really complain though, small matter of 160000 miles on it!!!
Hopefully see you all there (if the wife doesn't give me heartache over time spent with cars, AGAIN)!!!

 It was really quiet too, hope the next one isn't too busy!
