can people in the trade give me some answers (i'm getting varied answers whoever i ask!)
on the renault workshop manual it gives 2 methods for tensioning in the cambelt
the first is if the exhaust pulley nut and inlet phase shifter bolt need to be slackened, in which case you time the engine by locking the cams and then turn the engine over by hand (meaning the pulleys move on the end of the cams)
the other is if you do not need to slacken the bolt/nut on the pulleys, this method says you lock the cams as normal, replace the belt and idlers/tensioner, then remove the cam locking tool and again turn the engine over by hand one revolution (this means the whole engine is turning over as the pulleys are tight to the cams) check the timing, if all is ok jobs a good 'un.
now surely if renault write this in there workshop manual it must be ok practice to do this??
some people are saying you should always slacken the pulley nut/bolt and do it that way, others are saying you don't NEED to do that, and can do it as per the second method in the manual
your thoughts please
