Whine from behind dash with ignition on?

My ph2 172 has a whining noise from behind the dash, sounds like its coming from behind the centre vents. It's audible whenever the ignition is on. I had assumed fan noise, but it's there even with the climate control panel turned off.

Anyone had anything similar and can point me in the right direction?

It will be the sensor for climate control in the housing where the interior light it.

Mine does it, new sensor is about 30 quid I think but I've got used to it now.
