Want a new car. Stay with clio? Or step to a megane?

Hi,
I think it might be time to leave my little 182. Which sucks but I've been looking around at different cars and for some reason I want to stay with renault. ?

I've been thinking about a 197 or a 200. But someone suggested I look at a Megane. Must admit I kind of like the 250 cups. Sort of like the 225s / r26s as well. I'm just looking for advise to be honest.

I'm very interested in a 250 cup hopeful going to look at one next week had full Recaro and such but not to bothered about the look, on Monday I'm looking at a 225. I want something that is fun. But I'm not sure about older 225s. I'd like something abit newer.

Advice! Would be appreciated. Thanks. What would you guys suggest? What's good about them. What's bad about then?
?

I’ve had 172, 172 cup, 182, 182 trophy and a Meg 275.

All great in they’re own way. The Megane was easily the most refined and was rapid. Different aspiration made it feel more punchy. The clios much more raw, less refined, frantic at speed.

It depends what you’re after tbh. If you want more space and something more grown up go for a 250. I’d recommend driving one though, see what you think. Cup suspension on them is ridiculously bouncy at 30mph. I know it sounds daft but it irritated me no end. At speed the suspension was much better though

Intresting. I would like something more grownup.... As long as I can still have a little fun.
Well I'm not sure if I'd keep it 100% stock for too long I'm tempted to add cook sports for the megan. Not 100% sure yet. But after 4 years of a 182 and spending most of my time with a smile on my face and the rest pulling my hair out trying to fix issues.

I'm inclined to get something with abit more space and slightly grown up. Not to much! I'm only 24 ?

I've had a 172 Cup and a Meg 265. They're obviously very different, but you can sense the DNA. If you can afford it, I would go 250 over 225. They seemed to step up the quality a bit and a 250 is a nice, if slightly stiff daily.

I loved my Clio, but the Mégane is in a different league really, especially with some minor mods.

The Meganes are great, handling and power good, go for r26 if you want mk2, or cup model in mk3 so you have the lsd. Downside is quite a lot more expensive to run compared to the clio, parts are expensive and not great on fuel.

I had a brand new meg and it was s**t on fuel. After about 5-10k miles it got much better. In the end I was averaging 35mpg which isn’t terrible. Not as good as the Clio but it is more powerful and the low down punch is addictive

Mmm I love my clio but I would love to go for a meg

Modifying is much easier as it’s a turbo unit. As an all round package it’s hard to beat a 250. As above, you can see the renaultsport similarities in both

Thanks :) I'll remember that.

I mean I currently spend maybe £50 a month on fuel maybe? As long as I'm not reaching in to my pocket every other month for parts I won't mind to much. Besides I never skimped on the 182. Brembros and so on.

I have a soft spot for the r26. But I'm leaning more towards the 250 cup

MK3 Clio would have the same running costs as a MK3 Megane, especially as they are getting to that age where you will need to replace a lot of parts, trust me I speak from experience. Fuel economy in the Clio won't be any better either. Test drive both and buy the one you think is best for you.

What's the budget

£10,000

Another vote for the 250 Cup.

Got mine a couple of months back. Love it.

Awesome! I'm hearing great things

I mean it's an old car now. I'm expecting to pay for some bits but I'm hoping to get a new car to not be constantly paying out if you get my point.

I know what you mean mate, in that case buying one from a forum member would be your best bet. A lot of age related issues are know being discovered on them as well such as rear stub axle rust, front radiator subframe rust, clutches failing and ripping holes in gearbox housings etc. But I must admit, it never fails to put a smile on my face when whizzing through the peak district :D

I'm no stranger to problems I've had plenty of fun sorting issues out on my drive. Or having the gearbox poking out the wheel arch to change bits.

Im definitely tempted to buy one from a member or a dealer who are renault specialists. With some damn warenty too lol.

Just want another 4 years of fun motoring like I've had with my 182.

10k.

250 cup.

No sense to buy anything else imo.

Ye I mean I don't really wana spend all of that ? but I'm seeing some around 8-10.

Another vote for RS 250/265. I absolutely loved mine for the time I had it. It was fairly modified, but still refined enough for daily duties. Get one with the desirable options. You should easily be able to for your budget. Recaros are nice to look at and sit in, Cup pack, directional xenons. I really liked the keyless entry and start on mine, was cool. On another level to the 172/182. I know I quite often go on about them, but I do really miss it! You won't regret it. I will certainly buy another when money allows.

Drove one today. Absolutely loved it. It's a nice silver one with Recaros + cup pack. It's excellent car. So if all goes well.

Ill have a new car friday :)

Remember there are plenty about so don't rush into buying the first one unless it's perfect!

No I agree I looked At a few. But this one is everything I was looking for. The color I wanted. The seats/all belts already changed/low mileage/looked after.

The hubs are a touch rusty not to bad actually. Alot I've seen are really quite bad. And this one is completely stock. Alot cut the back box or something.

It needs a little work. But I was expecting to do some bits (only cosmetic).

It felt awesome

Yer it's always best to drive a few different ones so you can get a feel and pick up any potential issues with some. So long as it's been maintained then you should be all good :)

I tried out a local r26 it felt nice. But I just feel like I want something abit newer. It's an 10 plate. But its been looked after well by a Meg club member. No skimping on parts or anything that.

Im quite chuffed. It should be a nice car and last me a good few years. I was going to look at the ones ktec had but its close to a 3hr drive for me.

Ktec cars are overpriced IMO

Agreed. This one had less miles than the ones ktec had + it was closer ?. It was a it more than I wanted to pay for a car below 10k at least.

I was originally going to get a clio. But seeing the price of 200s with the same sort of miles (Around my area) I thought I may as well just spend a bit more and get that power. ?

Plus I'm not a big fan of the yellow. I like it, but it's not my style. I like the silver it has a nice tint. I'll shuv some pictures up once I've got it. ?

I went from a 182, to an R26 and a few weeks back I picked up a 250. The megs feel a little more grown up, but still a good laugh to drive.

If you can stretch you budget for a 250 I would do. The interior looks and feels a lot fresher than the MK2's. And the engines can take a bit more power.

Ooo. I do like the r26s I was tempted but the 250 is nice. And I really enjoyed driving it. It take a little getting used to but tbh I felt at home quite quickly driving them. I eventually found one I liked. Drove a few with 60k on clock or that didn't have belts changed, or things needed fixing and they still wanted £9k + for them. This one only had 45k and had the belts all changed at 44k.

It just needs the hubs cleaned. Can't have a shiny new car with rusty hubs. Wirebrush and a seal they be good as new.

  dan's cast offs.
I know of a 250 coming up for sale any time now, not sure if it's diff or not thougg but will check.

Ball joints not long done. 20t turbo, 630 injectors, decat and sensible exhaust that doesn't sound like a tractor stuck in a well. Nice sensible map on it as well.

Like them in silver!

Ye it was the color I wanted to. Its lovely color reminds me a little of my first clio. That was silver.

What did you pay for that mate. I'm seriously interested in upping the budget and keeping it long term.

I picked this up for just over £9k but its a solid car. Belts done 2k miles ago. Only done 45k, miles. Receipts. Full service history and got given spare disks and pads ?
Oil. Gear box fluid and break fluid too. Damn nice car

Ye I agree alot are that yellow/dark grey. I like mine looks nice ill get some more photos up once I've given it a clean!
