synchro problems / change of gearbox

hi all,

got a clio rs 172 ph2 (not cup). I think the synchro has a problem as I find it is often crunching into 5th and sometimes needs a lot of force to get it into 1st. 2nd can also be difficult.

I know I am going to need to change the gearbox (previous owner changed it to a newer version which doesn't have the speedo sensor port on it) or re-case the gearbox in the older style casing. If I change the gearbox, will this cure the synchro issue?

I'm also wondering if there's a guide that someone has made on replacing the gearbox? I haven't done it before but am fairly handy or do you guys recommend going to a garage?

Not neccesarily the one you fit could have the same fault. I would get your box rebuilt at agency transmissions then you know it will be right.

More than likely syncro but check linkage first
