Had it back on the road a week and have had several comments in traffic and car parks etc. Just don't see that many decent 90's cars being driven these days and its nice when you do see one getting use and not collecting dust/appreciation in someones garage.

"owned" is a bit strong, "leased" would be more accurate.
"people" want more features, and more comfort, and more faster, and more safer, and more and more and more.
The problem only gets inflated by the keep-with-the-Joneses middle-class mumsy set. Jessica must get Timothy to school, and to do that requires a 9ft high, 4-seater SUV, just to "feel safe".
They could do the exact same trip, just as comfortably and quickly in a half-decent-spec Clio, or Jazz or an MX5 even. But that wouldn't be "status symbol" enough. Fools and their money can be very easily parted, all you need to do is tell them they could be missing out on something that someone else they know has.

I was looking at old rubbish on eBay yesterday, this time was Fiesta RS1800’s. Again no idea why I like them and I would use it daily.
There was a mk3.5 fiesta in poverty spec but had the 1.8 zetec in from the RS1800 for sale recently, should have bought it just to annoy boy racers in it.
Who knows what I’ll be looking at next week, it changes so often!

There’s a load of the f*****s on my street, there’s one family that have 3 18 plate Hyundai Santa-Fe’s and a Van...
No caravan/trailer in sight and the bloke and his mrs are both probably under 5ft8. Neither of them can drive properly as they both managed to stick their car into some unlucky f*****s garden[emoji23]
I really don’t get the hype around having a big car to be safe, Clio’s have a better NCAP rating that most Land Rovers anyway. I think the term is small-man/small-penis syndrome...

When I sold my Clio I always said if I had another track car it would be “interesting” and not necessarily faster (One reason why I like the Ph1 and wouldn’t have a Ph2). Yes I could go get an M3 but it just won’t be the same as going into Quary at Combe in something like an MG Midget knowing you are at the limit as you pass someone in something a lot newer as they are too scared to bin it.

Toys sell cars..... more so for those that you can see. If I could have ordered an LSD for the 182 as a factory fit option - I would have been ticking that box all day long. Yet for the same money, there would be sat-navs, interior trims, stereo upgrades that would all be preferable to the majority of people. I was checking the other day for some stats on one of the new Minis and in typing my Google search, the first hit came back as "New Mini interior...". As I've said in many other posts - I couldn't give a flying f**k about the interior. If it's decent and functional - all the better. But it would be WAY down my list of wanting a car. People negate a car they like for a bit of curved plastic they rarely even look at, along with a few dials? Utter madness.
As engines get smaller, cars get bigger (and heavier) - the paradox is extending in that they are appearing less soulful. Yes, there was a lot of crap in the 1990s in terms of cars - but there were also some damn fine motors too.

Too many good finance/leasing deals on at the moment. Huge number of weapons on the road driving cars they'd otherwise never be able to afford, like Scrooge says. See so many A45 AMGs at the moment I've become totally numb to them. It's difficult to finance older cars, which is good in my book.

I don’t think anyone likes the fact that 21 year old lads (people my age) are getting stupid cars on finance. I’ve got 2 172’s and a dCi. All 3 of them cost me less than £1500 (probably spent a grand extra on parts too[emoji23])
But that’s less than the deposit that Billy ShitBollocks’ dad has put down so his son can have his “dream car”
Nothing more winds me up than my mates leasing BMW’s because “BMW’s are quick”
Took one of them out in my 172 and stuck to the bumper of my mates “stupidly quick 120d” and then continued to fly past??♂️??♂️ I keep telling them that they’re morons but they’re now stuck in the finance loop and can’t get out. I don’t get the appeal of a diesel RWD car that’s basically an Astra but with an extra 10k lumped on top. They don’t even lease the f**king nice spec ones either, it’s always the s**t model that just about has Bluetooth and 4 electric windows

Also, as much as todays engineering will help a 1ltr push 160-200hp. It wont do it for long.
90's cars came before a lot of current legislation. In the same way a lot of F1 cars would look the same if you didn't paint them, designers have to work around so many requirements that, yes, a rounded, non-descript car with LEDs is pretty much all you're left with.

Probably the V6, they were doing that engine but it was only putting out 160bhp, which in a big Vectra isn't that amazing.

Sure there are kinda modern versions of some of these (the S660 honda is a gem!) but, in the main, they're absent from modern line-ups.
Needs some Dekra / Opel / Mobil livery... but maybe not quite this much. Unless you're the sort that takes the back seats out of your daily because racecommute, or your MX5 has a wine rack in the front and rear bumper

I had some utter bellend speed up on me while I was trying to overtake the other day - he looked very smug surging away on his wall of torque in his tdi 18-plate black Merc, and seemingly had no appreciation or even care that his actions would kill me in my non-ABS, non-Airbags, non-PAS, non-ESP, non-anything old car if something came the other way and he didn't let me back in because 'funny' / 'winning'.

Was it by any chance an A Class? They always seem to be driven by complete spanners, especially the 220d AMG line ones. All of the folks I've seen with them with think they're Lewis Hamilton!

I think it was a C-class? Who knows, I have so little interest in penis-substitute or 'badge' cars that they don't even register on my consciousness lol
This was one of the few straights on about 15 miles of sweeping A-road with a range of speed limits - you know, the sort of road that has those annoying lonnnnng constant radius bends that are not quite open enough to overtake on but open enough to mean anything under 55mph is painfully slow for any person of normal intelligence (of which there appears to be few, going from my travels...).
Fortunately my commute is a mix of boring motorway, A-road sweepers and single-track unclassified roads, so it's not completely mind-numbing!
