O/S rear stub axel

  Clio sport 182
Hi, I’ve just had a esp/abs fault found on my car, the garage are saying it’s the rear wheel senor bracket that’s rusted & moving around, damaged the pick up. Needs new stub axel as it’s all connected apparently. I cannot get one anywhere! Except re-mortgage house & go to Renault dealers... It might take wks to get part from somewhere if I ever find one but is it dangerously to drive or will it effect my steering/braking? The garage wouldn’t say!
Plus if anyone knows anyone who has one spare please let me know.
Thanks

It won't affect your braking, only pulling the abs fuse would do that which puts the bias into 50/50.

Rear abs sensors are no longer available from Renault.

If you get a stub axle, you need to make sure you get the right one as 172 and 182 cup/cup pack ones are different (182 cup/cup pack are thicker).

Sounds a load of old balony to me.

Assuming it`s a 172/182 I can`t see any bracket that is going rust or bend there.

Stub axles come in different thickness`s if you have a bent one.

Your best bet is to pick up a complete rear beam given the shortage of ABS sensors.

Sorry I forgot to say.. it’s a 197 sport, I’ve been told by Renault it all comes together on the rear axel that’s why so expensive!
I’m hoping someone on here may have one somewhere or knows where I can find one.. it’s the o/s rear stub axel with abs sensor

It's a common fault on the 197s especially the earlier ones. Try going to your local Renault specialist as mine were able to cut out the rust that was making contact with the rear disc without replacing the stub axle, but I did need new discs. I'm sure you can get just the stub axle from people breaking 197/200s.

Renault specialist are not the easiest to find down Cornwall, I have to take it to a garage sale that don’t hardly see any sport!
Yeah I’ve been told il need new discs/pads,
Is it ok to drive for a week?

  Clio 197
It depends really, I would just take it easy as when you go over 20/30 mph the abs will kick in easily (as you'll feel through the pedal and hear). I drove mine for a week or two like that. One member on the other forum has successfully found just the abs ring and replaced just that so you may not necessarily need to replace the discs.

Is your chassis number CR0N ?

If so the stub axle is pt no 7701478228 (though it supersedes.) £180

Wheel speed sensor 479005024, £ 23 on ebay

and the bracket 8200455618 £47, though it could be welded and the air gap adjusted.

Don't know how a floppy bracket can bend a stub axle, but then ignorance is bliss, or profit if the customer knows f**k all.

This might sound like a stupid question, but I’ve rang renparts they have passenger side stub axle with abs... would that fit the drivers side or are they different?

  Clio sport 182
Does anyone know anybody breaking a sport 197? It’s impossible to find drivers side rear axle stub with abs! Checked on the links above but sold out.

The superseded part number for the RH stub axle is 8200437973.

Have you tried RPD, Renault Wolverhampton or Vospers?

Please convince me why you need a stub axle in the 1st place.

I took it too a garage as fault reading from esp/abs was the rear drivers sensor not reading the wheel. So he said the bracket/axle is badly corroded with the abs wire and il need a stub axle with bracket & abs sensor as apparently it all comes attached. Plus he says I need new discs/pads at back. Pretty expensive from dealers so trying to find second hand axle. I don’t know much about them.

The stub axle and the ABS sensor are not even on the same page & would not arrive in the same box!

Have you considered you are being fed a load of porkies?

Thank you for that.

As I suspected, there is nothing wrong with the stub axle per se.

The problem is with the 2 pence worth mild steel shield which that is not supplied separately, but wreaks havoc with the ABS as it falls apart with rust, with

fragments building up on the magnetic reluctor ring, damaging the ABS sensor & bending the bracket already weakened with it`s own corrosion.

I`d be tempted to fit a new bracket, sensor & reluctor, and omit the shield.

172/182`s seem to get along just fine without one.

That`s a front wheel bearing kit, will the shield be the same as the rear?

https://www.kamracing.co.uk/car-tun...o-mk3-renault-oe-hub-bearings-rs-197-200.html

What is apparent is that yet again, Renault have stitched everyone up by not supplying a cheap piece of tin separately.

I found this Youtube video, which shows that all that is required is an ABS sensor, the shield, which acts as a guide, and possibly the reluctor ring.

Perhaps @Kev@KAM would love to get stuck in to this

Someone, somewhere is making these shields/guide plates.

I cannot find a proper picture of the sensor 479005024R, as people are using generic photos, and Bosch (0265008928) have not published one.

It would appear that the sensor is retained on the stub axle by an 8mm bolt or torx screw.
