Always keep an eye on this build! Good luck on the rollers tomorrow!

One question, the centre bonnet pin, do you have a pic of where you have mounted the pin, from zooming in it looks as though it’s at an angle off maybe the bumper? It’s a nice neat solution to keep the centre of the bonnet from flapping!

Mounted on the bumper/grille at an angle with reinforcement behind. It’s ‘just’ strong enough to do the job and is the neatest idea I could come up with.

Excuse the state of the bumper!

Trackday booked for Saturday 10th March at Anglesey with Circuit days. Be good to drive Anglesey again, haven’t driven there since I raced the Leon there in 2008! Anybody local come and say hello. Will have a 16v Saxo testing as well.

Just getting prepped for the upcoming season. Most important job, washed the trailer!

Centre deck was filthy and it was looking a bit sorry for itself.
Nicole hiding!

Had the van on the ramp too for new discs and pads all around, new brake fluid, new engine oil, air and oil filter.

Needed to do a couple of jobs on the Clio that are a pain on my own so got my mate to adjust the gear linkage while I sat in and played about with the lever!

6ft off the ground, perfect view of the tv and still nothing on! Got the linkage perfect though, never perfected the position really since I changed to the new pure motorsport mounts but got it now hopefully. Spanner checked it all too and plan was to geo it but not sure I trust the setup in the workshop even though it’s brand new and expensive I think it’s out of whack at the minute. A check on a friends Hunter will hopefully tell me as I’m not getting the string out!
He weather was nice so a pic while Nicole was outside.

Bit of testing at a very wet and cold Anglesey yesterday with my mate Ged in his Saxo. All went well for both cars, no issues. Nicole felt great on the wets first thing but couldn’t get the heat into any other tyres and didn’t want to wreck a new set of wets so just took it easy on my usual damp tires. Weather was terrible and we left just after lunch but Mission accomplished.
First race in 2 weeks at Brands Hatch.

So, race report from last weekend at Brands hatch with TARC Tricolore Trophy.
First time I’ve Raced Nicole for nearly 2.5 years and first time I’ve ever driven at brands hatch, it’s a 650mile round trip hence the lack of previous experience! So wasn’t sure how we would get on, had everyone got faster while I’ve been away, had I forgotten how to drive?!
That being said I booked the 30minute practice session on the Saturday to give me an idea of the circuit.
Van all packed up ready to go

My home for the weekend

Getting there was a nightmate, accident on the M25 cost me 2.5hours so was a rush once at brands to get scrutineered ready for practice.
Practice went ok, nothing fell off and I got a few easy laps in just trying to keep out of the way of the BMW compact cup guys. To my surprise we were on the pace with mid to high 55 second laps and I wasn’t really pushing so it looked like we’d be ok, just needed to learn the finer details of the circuit and quickly!

Testing done we got unpacked and setup ready for Sunday’s quali and 2 races.

Having scrutineered on Saturday I didn’t have to on Sunday do gave Nicole a wash as she was filthy and covered in road grime and salt from the 325 mile trip down.

Onto quali then, because we had a full grid I didn’t really want to be in the middle of the que for quali and wanted to get a clear lap on my own so sneaked off to the assembly area early and lined up first ready to qualify looking pleased for myself! Onto the circuit and warmed the car and tyres up over a slow lap ready to start a flying lap, when I crossed the start line the end of the field was still leaving the pits, so that was all for nothing and I’d have to get a time through traffic! Picked my way through for a few laps and was putting decent times in low 55’s but car felt ace and knew it’d go faster so got myself some space and put in a flyer, 54.7 flashed on the dash and I knew that I’d be towards the front somewhere so was happy. Turns out it was enough for Tricolore Pole with just Rich Hockleys rapid K20 EK civic in front with a 54.3, pleased with that.
9061611cf699ad633faac5445d760095.jpg

Come the start of race 1 I Still hadn’t got the hang of some corners, my line out of the final corner, clear ways, was terrible and I thought I could be faster through paddock hill. Not to worry I got a decent start and held my place off the line with @Tony Hunter ‘s clio and Chris Bassets 205 behind. Rich in the civic pulled out a small gap and I managed to pull away from the cars behind, all was well until we caught the back markers which didn’t really work out for me, got hit from a 206 who wasn’t paying attention meaning the cars behind were right on me again. Fortunately managed to hold them off until the end to take the Tricolore win. Awesome to win first time at brands and first time back in the car for 2.5 years but definitely thought there was more in the car even though we did a 54.4

Race 1 video

Felt happier going into race 2 and thought I’d let rich off in the civic easy so vowed to stick with him as close as I could from the start. Got a great start this time and got along side the civic all
the way to druids where I tucked in behind and gave chase. I let the tyres come up to temp before I started to reel him in and was right on his bumper when there was a car on its roof at paddock hill bend next lap around, the race was red flagged. I was gutted but lined up as we were again for a 10minute sprint.
Got a good start again and got in front of the civic this time but added complication was a Turbo Rx-8 Mazda had launched off the line infront of the both of us. We had an absolutely awesome battle for the next 10 laps with places swapped between the 5 of us at the front. Truth be told the Rx-8 held us up and we couldn’t get passed which was a shame as I think we could of dropped into the 53’s. We finished like that, 3rd overall and Tricolore win again with Chris bassets 205 and Tony’s Clio just behind, we managed the fastest overall lap of any Tricolore/nippon car over the weekend with a 54.1 so over the moon with that.

You get a great view from Chris bassets 205 behind so watch his race 2

So all good from the weekend with trophies and garlands and all good stuff like that

However we’ve got some damage aswell. Bumper, grille and wing damaged, both offside wheels have damage and I’ve got a gearbox leak.

Well I did have until tonight!

Hopefully sorted the leak, was all set to take the ‘box out tonight but found a missing bolt holding the 5th gear end cap on so I’m fairly sure that’s been the cause of the leak so all cleaned and bolt replaced.

Sorted my grille and centre bonnet pin that was damaged too and cleaned as much rubber off the bumper as I could.

And there we are, first races out of the way, onwards to Prembrey in 3 weeks, somewhere else we’ve never been!

Tapatalk currently not letting me upload pics but bare with me.
So it was Pembrey this weekend just gone with TARC Tricolore Trophy again. Somewhere else we’ve never visited before, it’s a great circuit even if the facilities and organisation was a bit lacking.
In preparation for the weekend Nicole was given the usual check over and instead of using the expensive wheel alignment kit on the work shop that I don’t trust I resorted to string and a new camber gauge and frame!

We managed to get some testing done on Friday, the layout has changed recently so any knowledge of it was going to be better than none. Session was plagued with red flags and oil spills so only got a quick look around but happy to have a head start for quali.
Quali went well, got some quick laps in early before we caught the traffic. Thought there was more in the car and managed to get a space to put a proper lap in but ran out of time and the flag was out. Even so a 1m11.0s was enough for the front row with Will DiClaudio’s 106 on pole.

When race 1 came round it was properly warm, we got a decent start and kept 2nd until the first chicane when Rich Hockley nipped up the inside. Managed to get him back into the final corner the following lap and that’s where we stayed until the finished. Didn’t have the tires underneath to chase Will in front and just about managed to stay in front of the chasing pack of Tony Hunter, Nick Gwynett and Chris Basset. Front tyres were finished and over pressure due to the heat so a swap for race 2 was needed.

Still warm for race 2 and starting from the outside of the front row again. Another decent start and a bit closer to the leaders 106 this time, car felt better if a little twitchy with the aforementioned ruined tires now on the back! Managed to stay with the 106 all race and crossed the line only 0.1s apart going into the last lap. Unfortunately we touched at the hairpin which was my fault as I was hard on the brakes and so close together. Minimal damage on the Clio but a little more to the 106 unfortunately.
Hopefully we made him work for the win, eventually crossed the line 0.3s apart after 15mins of racing.

Race 1 vid.
https://youtu.be/F0ZZFj0ajIQ

The camera switched off on the grid so no footage of race 2 which is a bit gutting after such a close race, hopefully we can find some footage from behind to share from Nick/Chris/Tony.
A good weekend overall, 2nd on the grid and 2nd overall in both races. Missing Castle Coombe in a couple of weeks and will be back out at Rockingham in June.

Entry accepted for CSCC Tintops 40minute race at Oulton Park in just over 2 weeks time. Couldn’t go a season without racing at our favourite circuit. Number ‘151’ this time though.
Russ
I'll see you there. Are you testing on the Friday?
I’ll be there on the Friday mate but I won’t be testing, car knows it’s way round!

@shiftspark saturday June 2nd mate.
Russ

Favourite circuit for a lot of people but I’ve never raced there! Looking forward to it with trepidation!

You’ll love it mate, I like it as it’s one of those places that the more times you visit the faster you go unlike other circuits that you can learn in quali! At least your 2nd driver has been there before.
Russ
So the cat's out of the bag about my second driver then? That was my secret weapon!

I'm really looking forward to it. I drove there on a trackday a couple of years ago in preparation for a race that season and then rolled the car at Donington which put paid to that! But loved it then and the car should be better now, so we'll see.

Been getting the car ready this weekend. Changed the engine oil and filter + the gearbox oil as well, they’ve done 2 race weekends and still looked pretty clean so pleased with that, first time I’ve changed the oil in this motor.
Seen as the tintops have different regs. the headlights are back in and the roof scoop is off.
3dd6b8f9e0e179fefde409289333be0e.jpg

Had to make a plate to replace the scoop and leave the vent in place.
5a251e8c086d13e266391071448a7392.jpg

Plan is if it’s warm I’ll Remove the plate and leave the vent with just a hole in the roof to try and get some air in, regs are there to keep the silhouette as it left the factory.

Put some temporary numbers on as well with masking tape underneath so I don’t pull the other stickers/number box off. Has to race in Tricolore again in 4 weeks so want the proper numbers to stay. I know it looks a bit pikey but so be it.

Also sent my Race technology dash away to have the firmware updated. Latest update has some decent features for auto lap timing which will save mesons hassle.
Got a pair of new Dunlop’s to go on after ruining them at Pembrey too.

Only things left to do are the usual geo and spanner check which I’ll do on the ramp this weekend hopefully.

Nearly ready! Tyres on.

Dash is back with the latest firmware. However race Technology haven’t done what they promised and re-loaded the original configuration back on it! Much pain in the arse redoing it last night as I didn’t have it saved.

Hopefully everything works as it should as I won’t know until race day, I hate that!
Still to geo and spanner check on Thursday night but gave it a wash and loaded the van and trailer up.
Ps. Looks wrong with its roof scoop missing!

Spanner checked last night all good. Checked the geo and was bang on from last time I did it before pembrey.

Had to make a cross bar to hook the string line brackets on at the front as there’s no slam panel on the car anymore, had them jammed through the grille last time I did it.

Anyone who’s interested can keep an eye on TSL for live timings. Quali is approx 9.50am and the race is at 3pm.
