My new racecar project (Icemans old shell)

Yeah I don't know why they don't mask the holes up. Your other guy you used to use sounds like he did a proper job.
Yeah but as is the way now once the old guys retire it leaves a massive void. What used to be the normal standard for the old school guys becomes an exceptional standard for everyone else. That’s means the majority are then happy to do a normal job which is what you’d call sub standard years ago. But that’s enough ranting!

Croft tomorrow for a shake down. Nothing excessive, scrub the Dunlop’s in, bed some new pads in and do some fuel consumption checks + mostly scare myself a little after not driving it for 2 years!
Gave her a wash earlier and got the cscc sticker kit fitted with my numbers.
All loaded up now and ready for the morning. Hopefully get a few videos.

Hope all goes well. Still wouldn't mind knowing the numbers it made as weighing up whether to go for the PMS exhaust manifold or not

Well..........
It’s not gone well! Long story short it’s dropped a valve and wrecked the motor this afternoon.
Went well this morning no issues and properly quick, forgot how much I love driving it!
On the plus side I got my new pads bedded in and tyres scrubbed in! Just won’t get to use them at Oulton now! @bob the builder where’s that engine I sold you! Lol

Hi Russ,
Does your cage pick up the rear beam mounts? I noticed you have the strengthened rear beam but couldn't see triangulation to the rear beam mounts?

It doesn’t mate, in an ideal world it would strengthen the mounting pints however I think there’ll always be more room for unwanted movement in the bush/bearing joint where the actual beam mounts to the mounting brackets anyway imo.

Interesting yeah, I am looking at doing my cage now and debating whether to triangulate there or not. Its much the same thought with welding the chassis - effectively you are just dispersing the stress though some other point... not always a good thing.

You're probably asking yourself the same question now, but any reason why you didn't put uprated valves in?

Not a lot going on, not touched the car since I blew it up. Have plenty of engines here now to build a new one(s) with. Think I’ve got 4 in total. Anyway, last pic from when she was running.

And now, tucked up in storage in the middle of nowhere as I’ve sold my house.

In other news, been tidying up my T5 Transporter with some wheels, bilstein coilovers and some sportline side bars.

Still got a front spoiler to go on and some windows before I do the inside.

Also I’ve managed to buy a house, or at least kind of! Bought a cottage to flatten and rebuild my own house. Got a load of land too to keep me busy.

In a barn, far, far away!................

Started stripping Nicole, didn’t intend to get as far as I did. Got everything off the engine and ‘box to allow me to get it out of the car, fluids drained etc.

Only took me 3 hours from complete car to engine put and stripped down. Forgot how easy it is to work on. Just aswell as it’s in a friends barn with one power, lights or heating etc and it was freezing today!

It’s dropped the exhaust valve head on cylinder #2 and wrecked the head, the piston, scored the bore and also snapped a lifter on #2 inlet valve, not seen that before.

One for the trophy cabinet too, Valve head is properly embedded in the piston.

Plans are afoot to get an engine built back up ready for the start of the season. Got some bits on order so hopefully timescale is doable.

Pictures of house ? lol Will the garage be bigger than the house though ?
Still need to build it yet! There’s a cottage on the site currently that I’ll be demolishing to build a ‘decent’ sized house. The existing old forge will be converted into my garage for now which is effectively a triple garage. However I’ll be building a proper workshop/garage that actually will be miles bigger than the house in the field. House comes with 15 acres of grassland + 5 acres of woodland and river. Will put some pics/info up once all the planning etc is sorted which is what I’m on with now.

Well plans are moving along, should get the replacement engine back in this weekend if I get my finger out.
Then the usual, mapping and shakedown before she’s ready to race.
Speaking of which I’ve registered for the TARC Tricolore series again but they’ve changed the calendar last minute so the circuits aren’t great so possibly looking at doing 750mc Hot Hatch championship now but still undecided.

Not thought of tin tops? Think that's what I'll be doing this year?

I thought about that but looking at them not to different other than Cadwell.

I would also miss Donnington as a I am on holiday, could you do a mixture of both?

Donny, croft and cadwell worth it fir those, just a shame no Oulton again. Obviously you can just dip in and out of both series as you wish.

Hopefully if it survives the rollers we’ll have another go at testing before the first race of the season.
In other news done a couple of jobs on the M3 ready for its first ever Mot!

Always keep an eye on this build! Good luck on the rollers tomorrow!

One question, the centre bonnet pin, do you have a pic of where you have mounted the pin, from zooming in it looks as though it’s at an angle off maybe the bumper? It’s a nice neat solution to keep the centre of the bonnet from flapping!
