Michelin PE2’s red dot Gren line Green do

Need good answers and facts / pics to prove it. What is the offical meaning of the various symbols on these tyres (205/45 16). I have heard the red for cup and green for non cup, this is what i have had so far:-

1 set - red dot on sidewall only no line around the tyre (felt the best)

1 set - no dots or lines

1 set - no dots but red and green line around the tyre.

Whats the score can anyone officially ask or work at Michelin.

i dont know the answer but cupd and non cupd are supplied with the same tyres, only early non cupd didnt have exaltos.

they different speed ratings by chance? V rating and W rating?

Might just be traceability for the batch and mould tool used in manufacturing (similar to the tops of smarty tubes!)

ill look tomorow i have 3 green dot and one red dot in my garage. think it is to do with the tyre walls.

michelin say they only make one v rated tyre so they must all be the same, the side wall being different seems to have been a marketing disaster for Renault.

I have a set of Ws, no lines or dots anywhere but had very little roll at oulton and no damage to sidewall like normal.

Had some brand new W rated at Oulton myself, were just the same as the Vs. Left front was trashed big chunks of rubber missing..!

i normally have the same problem but i pumped mine up to 37 front and 34 rear, made a huge difference and no sidewall damage and I drove it hard enough to destroy 4mm of brakes!

the red dot is a balance mark....it should be lined up with the valve for optimum balance (not needed on UK roads)...cos we dont drive fast enough...lol

so why is it only on one type of tyre then, the exact one that fits the 182, the w rated ones dont have the dot?

yoz said the other week the suppliers dont actually no the different so they just ship any tyres out so you just get whatever really, like in the group buy i got 3 green and 1 red!

  Ziel Nurburgring

Phunkey Munkeys felt like it had a lot less roll and squeel when i drove it round the Nurburgring and i think at least both his fronts had the red dot.

StuV6 works for Michelin.

Whats been said already is correct though.

The coloured dot is used for balancing and there was only ever one tyre. The none cup packed and cup packed cars got the same tyre.

Probably right but why some red dot and some not ? Why some have green strip only some have red strip only some have green and red strip. There must be a reason even if its a production code or something...

They do, honest. I noticed while washing it at the weekend.

Must be special Trophy tyres to go with the Blueprinted engine. ;)
