Green Track Cup - Back To Basics

I bought this last week to hopefully use on some track days and have a bit of fun in, the gearbox mount let go on the first day so have just got that fixed and carried out my first mod on it moving the battery to the back.
Plans are to hopefully keep it low budget fun , but Ive never been good at sticking to that plan so will more than likely end up on boddies at some point.

Re: Road/Track 172

6 point Oreca cage professionally fitted
Powerflow full exhaust with decat
Superchip
Pipercross viper induction kit
KTR/Gaz full coilover kit
4 toyo R888 tyres
Brembo front discs/ferodo DS2500 pads.
Dot 5.1 brake fluid and goodridge braided hoses
Flocked dash
Oreca steering wheel
Reclining bucket seats with pro-racer 4 point harness
Fire extinguisher
Rear strut brace
Carbon fibre doorcards
TRS tow eye fitted
Aero bonnet catches
Fully stripped and painted interior
Battery in rear

I had a 182 as a daily a few years ago and it seemed to rev alot more freely than this , how much of a difference does the exhaust manifold switch make. Im going to get it on my mates rolling road to check the fueling as it seems a bit rich.

Re: Road/Track 172

Maybe invest in a set of solid top mounts if they arnt already in your long term plans.

Im from Leven , the car was owned /built by a guy from Dumfermline then sold to someone from Edinburgh.

Uprated top mounts and polished/matched inlets are on my shopping list so keeping an eye out in the forsale section.

Re: Road/Track 172

I look forward to this passing us at Knockhill later this year.

Also can i see inside your battery box, just would like to see how you've secured your battery as i have the same box waiting to go in. (For about 3 years now)

Re: Road/Track 172

Dave I bolted the box down using 4 M6 bolts with large penny washers either side, then used M8 thread bar and a top brace to hold the battery in place. It may be a bit over kill but I dont fancy a battery to the back of the head should the worst happen.

Re: Road/Track 172

I'm going to relocate the battery in my GTI-6 track car, free up some space in the bay.

Where did you buy your kit dude?

Thats Perfect. Thanks alot for that. I'll need to get some threaded bar and a top brace of some kind then i'll be all good.

Re: Road/Track 172

I got the thread bar from my local B&Q and used a spare seat brace from my go kart to go over the battery. The rest of the parts I got from Tweeks but but Merlin motorsport also sells all you need.
Im just waiting on a inline breaker to fit at the back rather than running a fuse.

Re: Road/Track 172

I decided today since the weather was crap that I would have a go at porting/matching the inlet manifolds, I know it wont give a big gain but its free.
What I found when i removed the manifold is a bit strange, as it looks like the head has been ported and had new valves some time fairly recently but the manifolds are standard.
The gasket ports match the head almost exactly but there is atleast a 4mm over lap on the injector inlet and a 3mm from there to the plenum on the plenum side.

Yup thats how the ports are meant to look.

You can have the top and bottom inlet matched to the gasket size, usually about 130-140 exchange (iirc)

Or free if you fancy giving it ago.

Re: Road/Track 172

I ported both parts yesterday, there now painted and refitted. Have had the car out tonight but with rain and 888's its just wheel spin. Hope to get the car on the rollers this week to check the fueling as it seems a bit flat lower down.

Re: Road/Track 172

You should bring it to KH on Sunday, you're only up the road.

Re: Road/Track 172

Its my last weekend at home before going back to work so dont think I will be at knockhill.
Im going along to Sitech Racing tonight to put the car on the rollers to check the fueling.

Ive also finnished the battery install with a switched breaker in the back rather than a fuse.

and under the bonnet with the painted and ported inlet.

Re: Road/Track 172

Had the car on the rollers at Sitech Racing last night to check the fueling , it goes slightly lean around 3K but from then on it is safe.

Re: Road/Track 172

Could a mod move this into the project section please.
It will more than likely go through a good few changes if my previous cars are anything to go buy.
