Amazing work, and a fabulous write up as usual.

Love the new exhaust, and love the ability to be able to custom make the original cat to fit.

Without cat :)

You may be right..... check below!

??
Been a busy boy, Mark ?

Yes mate and this is all between gym, training for a half marathon, friends/family time, flat looking/purchasing and work. Even the bike riding has taken a small back seat.

Glad you’re happy with the exhaust mark, It did look a decent system. I even thought about keeping it for my trophy but have a Yozza to try first, might end up being too loud though!
Russ

Trophy and Yozza are ?

This decatted dooesnt sound too far off a yozza, just not as raspy.

Fantastic work as always mate, you've done so much work.

Are you going to the meet on the 6th?

I know. Still not finished but im not spending that much money on it, remember?! ??

Yes i plan too Scott. Will have to come straight from work i think. I see you are too. Be good to catch up ?

Soon be time for a 197 Mark, found this old pic of Suzanne’s.View attachment 1367205

I think next one is a EDC as i do like them, but thats not for a while. And thats only a thought.

Amazing work, and a fabulous write up as usual.

Love the new exhaust, and love the ability to be able to custom make the original cat to fit.

Cheers Tom.

Yeah i had seen it done before and i thought, i got nothing to lose. Wanted to give it a go as a achievement too, which worked.

This car just gets better, and better!

Top work as always Mark! ?

Thanks Rob ?
Great update and love the attention being lavished on the car.

Cheers mate. I only add a few project shots on the IG, but more detailed on here.

Does take its time though!

No worries Mark, always happy to help mate. Keep up the good work, great attention to detail on this, and it shows ?

Cheers G!

As always, thanks for all your help.

As always the car and the work going in to it are awesome ? and as always great write up/photos, exhaust sounds good, definitely decat especially if easily interchangeable perfect for once a year ?

Yes Gareth. But i'll be honest, i know a friendly MOT guy so its not that much of an issue. At least i now have the option to flick between the 2 should i want too.

Awesome update!!

Thanks mate.

Can you show us some pics of the Mk1 Escort instead of your shed ?

Nah, just messing (and being a knobhead) fantastic update mate, it's sure looking good!!! ???

Haha, i wish i could. It was being worked on (not by me) and was only in for a few days. I should of got some pics when i took that pic but i didnt for some reason. It was proper cool too. Widerned arches, a drop and revolutions ?

Old skool cool Ian ?

Great update Mark, lots and lots of work done there but looks great!!

Loving the exhaust

Cheers Steve. I think the write up took me almost as long as the work!

Lots going on lately, nice to see.

Two quick questions. Where'd you get the brass inserts from for the gear linkage thingy?

And I noticed you don't have the springs in on the manifold to cat joint. Have you had any problems as I'm constantly trying to fight a losing battle trying to get that joint sealed. Have you got the gasket in still?

Jekyll

ClioSport Club Member
Oh yeah for sure.

I spoke to @Yanoo who does the brass bushes. Was £9 delivered and does feel tighter. Not a lot of money and I wasn't to sure how old the old ones were.

As for the cat bolts, I've never had a fitting kit on this. And I'll be honest I've never had an issue. I see people all the time saying get a genuine cat fitting kit but I've not experience issues yet.

I did think about getting one recently but forgot and just fitted the exhaust. I spoke to @Louis about epc ones and he didn't recommend them. I still have the gasket in place and have just not and bolted it.

@leeds2592

That does sound proper naughty on the decat, think you've made the right choice there Mark - tempted to decat mine sometimes but would be more of a hassle for me come MOT time so haven't bothered, but that's a real touch you can swap them over so relatively simply!

Not done a great deal apart from take a few (many) pics! Did a service so the maintenance is still being well kept.

Heres a few shots ive taken:

Bought a new powerflex mount for the ktec exhaust hanger as the standard one was a bit perished and made the system sag a tad.

43077131301_33cb95ea04_z.jpg

My sabelt writing on the steering wheel had chipped. I decided to remove it all so i could repaint it all in one colour rather than trying to touch it up. I have bought some Tamiya yellow model paint to paint the lettering but haven't got round to doing that yet.

I dont like the look really but its better than half painted lettering. Steering wheel is looking really tired now so a retrim needs to happen really. Unfortunately snappy cant seem to get the blue alcantara so i think i'll speak to royal steering wheels about it but that can wait as its not a priority at the moment.

Got a few shots of the RB after work in the sunset:

My handbrake just wasn't working so i got it on the ramps to investigate and it turned out to be a knackered drivers rear caliper. It was moving as it should, but wasnt appling the brake so the wheel would just turn. I had a spare caliper at work but for months i though it was a passenger rear. I nearly even threw it away a few weeks ago as it was just sitting under my toolbox and i couldnt be bothered to sell it. Turned out it was a drivers rear! Happy days! So i swapped it over, re-bled the brakes and now its all good and working.

Then i did a engine and gearbox oil change:

Quick snap of mine and a guy at works recently resprayed megane. The R26 looks so good!

Service was done and the car has now just ticked over 128k.

All done.

Then i gave it a clean and took a few snaps:

And my fave one:

28648650927_9c63c5b658_z.jpg

Then after work one night this week i fitted my decat, again! Yes it is more droney, but my cat sags too much and scrapes, which was annoying. Plus it was tight between the heatshield and the gear selector so fitting the decat has given me more room. Lambda fitted to the heatshield so its out of the way. I will change the exhaust clamps too for some proper ones, but i haven't ordered them yet.

And a quick pic after it was fitted

Thats all for now, but am planning to do some paintwork soon. This is due to the new paint i had done being a slightly darker shade to the doors. It was a colour match but my guess is because its new paint against 14 year old paint. Hopefully it'll be ready for CSF!

Always looks spot on. Love white alloys.
You say you gave it a service, as you're already keeping on top of the maintenance, what did you do?

Thanks bud.

What I meant was, I gave it a oil service of engine oil and filter and new gearbox oil. All fluids checked and all is good so no need to change anything else really.

Plugs and other bits was changed on the last service 6 or so months ago.

  Clio 182
Ah, get you now. That lot was the service, thought you were doing something extra.

I do all my oils, fluids, pads and plugs etc myself. Only had the Clio a little over a year and it's quite handy to know what to let a garage do. I suppose I should give it to a professional to give it the once over underneath.

Same bud.

I try and do as much as I can myself, or at least give it a go. Don't like handing my car over to a garage really. Always sceptical they make up a issue, don't treat the car with respect and charge over the odds for the work.

Obviously I will take it there for things I can't do or isn't worth my time in doing them, but for most things, I'll try and do myself. Im no mechanic, so not only do you save money, but it's always a learning curve and you can take your time and also clean bits as you go.

Good Job mate, pretty much the same as what ive been doing to mine,i painted the calipers and did a brake fluid flush.Along with oil and filter change, also a rebuild on the rear calipers.Need to sort that little road trip soon mate while were getting this great weather!?

Very nice as always Mark, the usual attention to detail I expect :D

I'm going to go against the grain however and say I prefer the Sabelt engraving with no paint, as it is right now - just seems to match the interior better somehow!

Looking good Mark and its nice to hear all the fettling you did early on is holding up [emoji16]. I'm with Steve though, I think the yellow on the wheel was out of place. I'd be tempted to repaint it in white if anything.

That sounds like a nice idea actually.

The way these go black anyway you may aswell just buy my sparco with white engraved logo and black tip ;)

I know you was on about various colours Steve! It was you that inspired me to give mine a touch up!

I know mate. I'm guessing it be after CSF now as I plan to start stripping it this week. We are away in Portugal end of Sept so maybe we can aim for being of Sept or beginning of August?

This car never disappoints

I say different up close, as I always do!

I don't know Steve. It just looks a bit.... unfinished? Maybe because I've always known them as having yellow paint. Don't get me wrong, the steering wheel is well work and in dire need of getting retrimmed.... but I feel the need for yellow.

What fetlling are you referring to Paul?

White or blue would be the only colours I'd contemplate, but I think on sold on redoing it yellow again.

For ages, ive had some stickers made from @LeeRS as i wanted to do a Renault sport plate, but in 3/4 size so i can swap when i take pics.

I got a standard plate and cut it down to size, then added a white strip and cut it to size, then place the renault sport on top. I had bought the genuine plate a while back but didnt like how flimsy it felt so i wanted to make my own set. Not perfect, but pretty happy with them.

Then after work this week, the stripping has started for preparation for new paint. This was the first night.

All came apart easy and as it should apart from 1 bolt under the drivers wing which was rusted. Belt sander sorted that out.

Then i got arty with the parked up/ stripped pics:

2nd night. More was stripped. Al rubbers and door cars removed, handles, wing mirrors, speakers, boot lock and wiper motor. Unfortunately, i bent/crimped the passenger side door rubber upon removal. It may be salvageable but i'll enquire about a new one. The rear wiper decided that it didnt want to be removed. Im toying with doing a wiper delete and fitting a wiper blank as it doesnt really get used but i may just buy a new arm and remove the stripped cog. Will ponder on it. Lastly, i just caught my wing mirror plug when i was winding up the window. It will plug into the loom but i will buy a 2nd hand one and solder the wires together if i can. Other than that, all went smooth.

Pretty much tom.

All outside panels. Not bothered about door shuts as it's all clean in there.

Doors, bonnet and boot will be removed. Rear bumper is good as it was painted the other month. Not painting the roof and some things I'll just polish up, such as the rain drips.

The Renault Sport plates look great!!

Does it need painting ? It always looks really good in the pics (sadly I don't think I've seen it yet)

Thanks mate. Not bad for home made and I really like the 3/4 size. I did use sappy water but there are some air bubbles still but it's ok unless really up close.

You know what, it's decent body work for it's age and mileage (128k) but I have the facilities to do so at work and went halves on the products with a chap at work (apart from colour) so although I could have got away with it, I've taken the plunge to do it complete.

If the new paint matches the old one I probably would have given the work a miss but it's darker than the doors, presumably because new vs old paint so for me it looks incorrect. In photos it probably doesn't show but I know it's not right.

Time is the biggest factor now but will dedicate some time to it and the other guys at work will do all the main prep and paint for me.
