  white clio 1.82

  R5gtt, 182, volvo...
yes, and then he tried to sell it and it wasn't worth more than a j reg clio 1.2... dont bother unless its dont cheap for the track or something..

waste of money 10 times over

engine and gearbox is all in, subframe and bits are off being powdercoated

i'm using 172 ARB, 172 wishbones, 1.2 16V ball joints, hubs, driveshafts

wiring is the tricky part, my complete dash if off at the moment

  white clio 1.82
yeah same here but im using the complete 182 drive shaft hubs arb and ball joints, have u got the ignition barrel for yours cos ive been told that it wont start without it, my dash is off at the moment but we have managed to thread the loom in, its a bit of a biatch but 2 of us got there in the end. ull have 2 get the 172 heaters aswel cos myn dont fit the connections and ull have loads of airbag wires spare by centre consol, and the front wiring loom doesnt match the rear wiring loom, thats about as far as ive got..............

why what happened? ive got the engine and wiring loom in but thats as far as ive got
FOrget it I'm writing a guide if I can find what I've written at the moment I'll post it its not worthwhile though.

any problems yet mate? how far have you got?
There no problems depends what setup you use how difficult it is.

You can use your old barrel you need the decoder ring and the plip keys from the old car.

Bin the Air con system is easier. plus wirinbg is easier plus more power since the air con saps power just remeber to reroute the AUX belt don't leve the pump in place with no fluid. Infact dump the hydrolic PAS and run the electric rack its easy to wire up the guide has has to do it.

Front and rear looms sometimes match up it they don't it becasue your realy loom has the high up seatbelt tensioerns. Easy option is to forget them just solder up the lines from the looms about where the door is. Then you don't have to strip the ca down resiet the lines in the airbags computer to get rid of the light or use the doner cars airbags computer and get the codes cleared if its from a crashed one.

You shouldn't have spare wires on the airbags system the only different is the Cup looms don't have side airbags systems on the 172 Cup but that not problem the airbags computers on them don't look for them so you won't have alight.
Just bin the whole of the old loom if you've got the new one. The new one just plugs in.

I'd have taken the dash off realy much easier than trying to thread the loom its not that difficult to remove and easier to do and ligthen the loms at the same time.

so have u completed your conversion if so, why wernt it worth it?

How can it ever be worth it you can pick up 172 realy cheap these days.

Most conversions don't have the full 172 bits ie rear disks for the price etc.

Freds not finihsed his only just got the engine and got it fitted I think.

Also insurance can sometimes be a pain

i picked this engine, box, loom, brain, subframe, hubs, discs, ignition, key and exhaust for £600, and ive just bought new 182 struts direct from renault which cost about £100, and thats all ive spent. i think its worth it.

Brain i assume you man UCH? ie the box which goes ontop of the glove bos in the dash?
Extra you'll need add up
Radiator
Driveshafts
Exhaust manifold
Brakes (you'll want to change the lines and pads etc so thats £200 for uprated stuff.

I'd change the brakes clutch and all the belts then you want to remove the PAS pump and air con system IMO so there a new AUX belt as well.
Also the new top mounts (they come with the struts though I think) also new ball joint and wisbones as your are most likely bent same for the subframe most are bent. New dogbone mount aslo not a bad idea then new fluid (decient ones ) are £100.

Your gearbox is most likly need replacing most do.

Did you get the dashboard?

Good luck though.

brain i mean ecu sorry for the slang, yeah everything u just listed was in the price aswel, but no i didnt get the new dash, ive left my shape 1 in but instead of using 182 clocks which wont fit my dash ive bought 172 clocks, the connectors are the same but do u think they are both compatible?

Yes the 2.0 will fit. Easiest way to do it would be to buy a 172 so you have all the parts you need, engine, loom, gearbox, suspension, brakes, steering, driveshaft etc. Then just rip both cars guts out and install it all.

Or just buy a 172 and drive that. Simples(y)

When I was 19 I had a 1100cc mini. It was slow but around town none of my mates could keep up because it cornered like a rollerskate on tracks. There's more to driving quick than power young un.

True, My brother has a 2.0l Ford and he rear ended me trying to "drift" its a front wheel drive keep that in mind but im wanting to drop around £5-6k on it to get it up to date and modify it. I don't know anything about the mechanical/electrical side of the car i just know how to drive it. :ROFLMAO:

FCUKING LOL at spending £6k to get half of a £1500 car from 2002, which will be out-dragged by most diesels.

£14k for insurance... Are you 11 ?

By the time you've finished fcuking about getting some frankenstien piece of junk to work, you'll be 21 and insurance will be sub 4-figs with a decent specialist for a regular 172.

Have a look on here how often it's a) easy, b) cheap c) actually ever finished with no issues.

If someone had given you a 172 which had been rear-ended, and you were handy with the spanners.... it maaaaay almost be worth a laugh to put it all into the 1.2 shell, but honestly it's just such a waste of time and cash.

As above, get some quotes for your psuedo-172 and just go buy some beer instead.

Get a dCi100 and map it. Will be as quick as a 172 95% of the time.

Have you had a quote yet for the 1.2 after the engine conversion?

90% of insurance companies probably won't even cover it, the rest will be 16K or something equally silly.

How do you plan on doing the conversion in the first place then??
