Brads E46 M3

  BMW 330ci
That wheel centre cap being misaligned against the ///M badge on the wheel makes me twitch.

Otherwise, very very nice (y)

I was thinking that the interiors haven't changed that much at all (tech aside) from yours to mine...then recently a friend sent me pictures of a mint E28 M56 and I reaslised that nothing much has changed since way back then. even the pedals, from the E28, to your E46, and my 1 series are identical the whole way through. I guess they got it right first time around.

Haha there not actually my new centres as I haven’t got round to putting them on. But don’t worry they’ll all be lined up as that is one of the things that also really bugs me as I can notice it from a mile off.

Yeah there not that different obviously with much better tech, but I do get what your saying. But why change something that works? I still think this has a great interior. Doesn’t look dated, and is genuinely a nice place to be.

I love it, but was wondering what you think to lowering it a touch at the back or getting a bit of camber on the go?

Thing is I knew because of the eibach springs the front tend to sit lower than the rear. Which is noticeable. I do like these springs, however I would prefer to have coil overs which I think is the plan as otherwise the shocks are going to need replacing. So I think the plan for the future is some coil overs.

I'll have my Bilstein clubsports for sale in the next few weeks. Cost £3900 new, will be after about £1500 if you're interested?
Very pliable for road use when dialed down!

So I’ve been doing a few bits since my new parts from bmw arrived. Mainly things that will never be seen. But wanted to get them tidied up for myself.

Fitted the new exhaust mount/holders. Fitted the underside panels that I’d cleaned up, as well as the new v brace. Gave the underside a snow foam and cleaned a few bits up. By no means perfect but as good as I’d like without going silly.

Still got a few bits I’d like to do. So will be a few more updates soon.

Thanks.

Also still have the front undertray to fit. But need to get new bolts as it’s never had one fitted, and debating whether to fit the purple tag steering rack I’ve had in the shed for over a year, but need to ensure it’s fully working is there anyway to check that apart from putting it on and driving.

The stacks do sound great. Just a shame you loose so much performance.
Yeah they really do sound great. My plan at some point is to either remove them and fit original air box or my preferred go for a Csl box when one comes up for sale.

So had the day off work today and as the weather was decent thought I’d do a few jobs I’ve been meaning to get done.

First off order 4 x jack rubbers, was only off eBay and at £12 thought I’d give them a go. They are fine apart from a bit smaller than original. But can’t see it being a problem. My old ones were either missing or badly damaged.

Then I had a fog light that was missing. So ordered two led ones. And new side lights. Should’ve ordered high beams as there still yellow.

Removed my rear bumper as I wanted to clean behind it and also try and make it align better. My god this is a nightmare still not sitting great. The small holders on the arch seem okay but might get some new ones. Dunno if anyone has any ideas.

Cleaned up the exhaust not perfectly shiny but much better. Also changed two tips as they were quite bad. Not new ones but better condition than mine. One day will get 4 new ones. Just waiting on the rivets from bmw.

Also had to change the headlight washer pump as that seemed to have failed. All back working now though. Although annoyed as I found I had a spare in the shed after buying one. God knows why, but I have loads of parts in the shed lol.

Then just gave her a clean

Next up will be doing an oil change at home with spark plugs, filter etc. Then have my mot. Hopefully passes.

I feel with a car of this age there’s constantly something you can do to be tinkering with. Everyone always says oh why don’t you get something newer, but truth is I love tinkering and improving things that no one but me will ever notice.

Thanks.

So car is MOT’D and taxed and back being used. Forgot just how good it was. Put a smile on my face straight away. The noise from the stacks is still so addictive.

Change the pollen filter, oil filter and oil.

Also finally managed to put my undertray on. Looks great even though it will never be seen. But it’s never had one on for some reason.

Also had new plates so put those on. Old ones were okay just needed a freshen up.

Also had a few bits painted that were annoying me, lacquer peel on driver side arch, spot of rust in the rear corner where the boot meets the body and full rear bumper as there were some marks and a scratch on the corner.

Then gave it a clean and went for a drive.

Few pictures.

Lovely looking car, always had a soft spot for the E46 M3. My friends got one setup for track at the moment and he loves it.

So been doing a few bits with my day off. Nothing major.

First up checked the Vanos filter and gave it a bit of a clean. All looked okay. Will replace shortly due to knowing how cheap and easy to do they are.

Gave all the metal work a bit of a clean as the metal of the clasps for the stacks was going a bit nasty. Will eventually get a dremel for the Vanos.

Also this wire has been exposed since I got the car, can’t think of any other way to fix it so had to get the electrical tape out.

Also when I had the CSL Software done I had the rear windows to close one push, but never realised how easy it was to make the button work the same as the front. Just need to remove a bit of plastic from the inside. Passenger side works perfect, however driver side opens but doesn’t close. Will only close when I turn the key in the door key, which is annoying me as I can’t figure out what’s wrong. As it seems the switch and window motor are both okay.

Pics of the switch.

That’s all for now. Currently also have the updated diff bolts which I’m just finding the right day to fit as I need a day when I don’t need the car. So will do that in due course. Would also like to change the oil in it.

Just really enjoying driving the car in this nice and hot weather we’re having with the light evenings. Even if it is just motorway miles to and from work.

Hope you enjoy.

Thanks.

So with the rear windows deciding to play up. Finished work early and decided to have a look. Front windows working fine. Rear ones working when they felt like it. Or just opening then closing when the key is turned in the door. So I knew it couldn’t be the switch or motor as both proving to work. Decided some trial and error. After looking online found common solutions. Checked the wiring on the switches. Fine. Checked the fuse, so took the glovebox out. All appeared fine, not blown. Then had to take rear seats/ door card out. Couldn’t immediately see anything wrong. Checked the wiring for any frays, again all okay. Then checked the switch to the back of the motor which pretty much just fell off so must’ve just been in place. Clicked that back in and bingo. Now how fully rear working windows that close on one touch, as it had been previously coded and I made the alteration to the switch internals. So well happy, nothing better than when a bit of tinkering goes well for once lol.

  a better one
mine used to close on full closure when you held the car key button down, until it went to BM for missing key decoding. After that they'd open from the key but not close. I kept meaning to get it recoded but sold it before I got round to it.

every time I see this thread pop up I wish I'd kept mine.

Hardly use the rear windows, however was just annoying me knowing the wasn’t working. And I’d done the switch mod for one touch close and couldn’t make use of it. So glad it’s working.

And I just couldn’t see me selling this anytime soon. Couldn’t think of what to replace it with for the same money tbh. I’d like to get a daily to try and keep the miles down as currently using it daily. However makes a great daily.

So today with this heat we’ve been having been meaning to do this for a while, as I replaced the condenser sometime ago, but never needed the air con.

Decided to have it done today. Nice and easy, held pressure so no leaks. And no it’s nice and cold.

Obviously had to clean it before it went there :) has a few people coming up to it and having a look around, saying how nice and clean and in good condition it looked. Always nice to receive compliments.

Generic car having the air con done photo.

Such a lovely machine. Whenever this thread gets bumped I always end up on Pistonheads/Autotrader
Haha thanks mate. Perfect all rounder tbh. I’m doing 60 miles a day to and from work and it eats the miles. However don’t really want to continue using it so will hopefully get a daily soon.

Feel it needs some spacers tbh, probably 12mm all round.

  BMW 330ci
Yep. Bloody love that. Agree with above about ending up on autotrader. It’s such a nice car
Thank you. Still really wanting the Csl boot, going to just have to buy one at some point, constantly on eBay. But then I am just enjoying driving it atm.

I agree just never purchased one always back out for some reason. Even thought I know come sale time I’d easily get my money back.

Yeah I’ve seen his mate, his was perfect tbh
