172/182 Torque Wrench Settings

  clio 172 ph2
1. Alternator upper support mounting bolt - 38Nm + 0.4
2. Alternator upper support mounting bolt - 32Nm + 0.3
3. Alternator/block tie-rod mounting bolt - 62Nm +0.6
4. Alternator upper mounting bolt - 32Nm +0.3
5. Alternator lower mounting bolt - 38Nm +0.4

A lot of the bolts in the illustration won't apply to you but bolt number 3 goes directly into the block so i'd say 62Nm is where you'd need to be on all the other bolts from bracket to engine block.

The rest are between 32 & 38 Nm but you'll have to use your judgement.

Another one that was hard to find were the 2 top bolts (M8 x 35mm 8.8) on the steering rack that hold the bushes in place. These bolts also attach to separate brackets holding the power steering pipes - number 4 in this illustration. Torque for these bolts are around 25-30Nm - Thanks to @JamesBryan for the info.

Please don't confuse with the steering rack bolts (M10 10.9) which hold the brackets to the subframe - numbers 6 and 12 - those are 50Nm.

Only Renault could design a bracket requiring 2 different size bolts with drastically different tollerances lol

Please could people confirm that the two smaller nuts on the upper gearbox mount are defo 62Nm?

"Upper Gearbox Mount:
- Central nut: 62N·m
- Mount to Gearbox: 62N·m"

Thank you

I wonder if the list contains other incorrect torques?

Could a moderator update the incorrect value(s) in the lists earlier in this thread, in case someone follows this guide without reading all the other posts?

If anyone is on the turborenault forum, could they let them know re errors in their list?
