Just been searching through the forums and stumbled across this thread...
I bought this car about a month ago, so it's interesting to see the history. The car has now been returned further back to stock with the exception of the suspension upgrades. Plans for the car are to keep it OEM+...
I had this exact problem with the knock sensor code coming up as well. It was the HT leads that were causing the problem. I think the misfire had caused the knock sensor code to come up, but I changed it anyway.
This was me on my way to work :D
Nothing like a good ragging in the morning to wake you up ;)
I've had the cup for 2 years now, always driving down that road, surprised we haven't crossed paths before!
If the coilpack isn't producing any voltage, put a new one in and see if that cures the issue. I'd imagine the petrol smell would be due to unburnt petrol in the cylinders.
Yeah, I did think that, but I have no other reason to disbelieve the story. There is no sign of accident damage on the car, so I presume the insurance company must have thought it was more economical for them to sell it on than paying for it to be repaired themselves. I'll never know for sure...
My car is a cat D, apparently a few months after it was new, some jealous prick keyed every panel. It was bought by a guy that worked in a body shop for a cheap price, he repaired all the damage and kept it. My previous car was a cat C, tbh as long as the repair work has been done properly you...
Cheers, unfortunately I took this video 1.5 years ago and it's now racked up 70k. Looking at the old MOTs, it seems some years the previous owner barely did 3k haha
This is my vid of a 0-60 in a standard cup, had subwoofers in the back, so carrying a little extra weight, roughly 6.5s from when I drop the clutch at 6.5s and hit the limiter in 2nd at 13s
The only time you can drive a car without tax is either to an MOT or from an MOT; without stopping off anywhere on the way. So getting it home shouldn't be a problem.
I wouldn't be so sure. I used to have a mk4 fiesta (mk5 was just a facelift of mk4) lowered on aftermarket springs and shocks, running the same size tyres you find on a 172 and it didn't corner as well as my 172 cup does on standard suspension.
But I guess there is only one way to find out...
In my old mk4 fiesta I had to brake going round a roundabout quite quickly due to a queue of traffic I couldn't see from the other side. The back end stepped out and I managed to hold it whilst coming to a stop inches away from the queuing car's rear bumper. Proud moment, but I'd be quite happy...
Chances are the washer jets aren't broken, but the pump is so weak that the water dribbles out of them instead of spraying out of them. Don't bother with a renault pump either, ebay jobs are perfectly good and only cost a fiver ;)
Wiper puller is one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Windscreen-Window-Wiper-Arm-Removal-Remover-Tool-Glass-Mechanics-Puller-New-15mm-/231020300839?pt=UK_Hand_Tools_Equipment&hash=item35c9e20a27
I found the wipers a right pain to remove even with the puller!
Mine does the exact same thing if you deisconnect the battery and reset the ECU. I found that if you wait a few minutes and turn the ignition key from 0 to 2 and back to 0 a few times it fires up no problem and doesn't re-occur until you reset the ECU again.
