Hail? It was like 25degrees and soo humid/hot yesterday, freaky weather though as we did have a massive rainstorm with big tropical style rain drops, but didn't see any hail - you would've though it was impossible in those temps!
BMW didn't want it to take the M3's halo so didn't give it the 6 speed and claimed it wouldn't fit. Some people are modifying the factory boxes by removing baffles but there are aftermarket options but they're not cheap. I've got Eisenmann boxes on mine but "road" tone so hardly louder than...
If you're going to use road tyres then make sure than are at least half-worn otherwise you will likely suffer excess tread roll/wear and distortion. Nothing worse than driving on a newish road tyres on a trackday! You will also find accelerated tread wear. This is why dedicated track tyres are...
Same as all brake fluids! Unless you're thinking of silicone-based DOT 5? Dot 5.1 was developed over DOT4 for modern ABS brakes (althoug DOT 4 works with abs braked cars also) it just has a slightly lower viscosity and has higher basic spec temp ratings.
I got DOT 5.1 at around £2.50/500ml...
I think it something I just started to do with practice in my 205, although it was so easy in that car that I found myself doing it all the time even on any road. The BMW is a lot harder, not sure whether it's due to the floor mounted hinge throttle or the pedal layout but it took a lot longer...
That's a quick time, don't think I was going much faster than this!! The car looks so grippy on slicks. Good driving although one comment I would mention is heel and toeing - it doesn't sound like you're doing it? probably won't increase lap times much/at all but it gives the gearbox and clutch...
I don't think the GT2RS was using more than 30% of it's 620bhp/520lb/ft performance, I noticed it behind me in one session and he wasn't catching up. It sounds daft but that car is almost "too" fast at a trackday with "normal" cars to use any of it's potential. It gets to 100 in about half the...
Got my footage up now and roughly whats in them;
1/5: Blue "Mark Fish" Clio, Black Ibiza, 3-Series Trackcar, Silver Ibiza, TVR Tuscan, Yellow Caterham, VR6, Blue 16v, White 106 GTi

2/5: Mk2 Golf, White Megane, M3 CSL, Red 16v, Focus RS, Silver mk1...
Just standard suspension changes (springs and dampers) - you have to with these cars as they're far too soft from factory. I imagine the R26 goes well on track from the factory? Engine is standard so power to weight is probably about the same though the megane actually has nearly 50lb/ft more!!
That was me! :) I've probably got the onboard of that session from mine so I'll try and post it up and link it to it. That Megane is really quick I didn't really pull away on the straight too much at all - is it remapped or something!?
Great trackday with fine weather and wasn't busy either! Good to catch up with Chris and Rich. I got plenty of footage too from the black ZM Coupe which I'll try and upload at some point.
The moral of the story is if you went back to have your tracking re-checked it again it will always be "out"! It can alter depending on who tracks the car or variances in the fitting of the wheel markers and calibration. The steering wheel is generally locked in dead ahead position but this is...
Don't bother if the car was fine before the tyres were swapped and there was no abnormal wear on your old front tyres, and if the car is smooth now also (ie balancing). This is common when rotating tyres where a tyre has "worn" in to the a particular axle. I bet in about 500miles it will cure...
EBC discs are not good. Stick with good quality OEM discs.
However EBC Yellowstuff are fine and great for the money IMO. They are better than 1144 for two reasons; they don't fade at moderate track pace like 1144 and don't dust much which is great for road use. With the Yellows they can be used...
A tidy Phase2 interior is pretty good IMO. The Phase1 interior was well past it even when the first 172s first came out, the design and plastics are nowhere near as good.
Nothing is the proper answer. Make sure the carrier is well cleaned with a wire brush etc and the pads move freely in the sliders. Grease just attracts dirt.
If they're anything like the 205 1.9GTi the discs only get really worked (and look "clean") under hard use like a trackday etc. Other times they kind of don't look fully bedded in.
I found with my 182 the boot would pop off (but not split) and the grease would come out. Luckily I spotted it the day it started happening and put a new clip on it.
Greatly depends on what the car is like and how you market it. Pistonheads is the best place to sell theses cars IMO. Some good photos and a well-written advert are critical. I sold mine within a week last year. It was a very good example in a desirable colour (BG, with both Cup Pack and low...
